Vihtavuori Powder - opinions

All I've used is 20N29. It's so slow that there might not be a cartridge smaller than the 50BMG that can't take a full case and still be under max pressure.

I have never used it for anything other than 50BMG. Are you suggesting you have found it useful in any other caliber?

I guess if I had a 25 Weatherby, or something like that, I might try it just for giggles.

It's too slow even for my 257 STW with 120 gr bullets. You need an Expansion Ratio similar to the 50 BMG to need it's "slowness". I couldn't find one pound, so I bought eight.... I need more overbore cartridges to put it to the test.

VV N350 Powder loads for 38 Spl & 44 mag

I acquired some vv N350 & would appreciate some good loading data for a 148 gr LHBWC x 38 special or magnum as well as data for loading a 44 magnum using 200gr or 240gr LSWC for target shooting only .. Should I use magnum primers when loading either calibres with this powder ? Thanks !

Standard primers are just fine.
350 is a slow pistol powder best suited for full power. It does not down load very much for plinkers or target loads.

38 spl 148LWC 4.0 to 4.3 gr 350

44 mag 240gr 11 to 12 gr 350

I don't know if I'm adding anything here, but I also use N320 for 9mm and would prefer not to use anything else. I haven't found N310 terribly useful, but I have lots of it (too much). The loadings for N320 were nearly equivalent to W231, which is also a fine powder.

- Wanna sell it?:dancingbanana:

I'm just starting-out with VV, got N310 and N320; the N320 loaded soft with lead loads made the Webley go "chuff" and left granules in the chambers. I loaded some 200gr LSWC's with light N310 charges and the accuracy was better than I thought I could shoot :d

Going back tonight to see if I remember that range session right, or it was just a fluke :( - but N310 seems to be the medicine for light lead loads.

Would It be advisable to use a gas check under the 240 gr x 44 cal. Lead & load them up for a better burn with the N350 ... I have just purchased my 29-3 S&W 44 mag revolver & have not fired it as yet as I am looking for some bulk leads for reloading (1000or2000 at least)

I was loading my 38 special cases with 4.5 gr of N350 against a 148 gr HBWC crimped 1/8" of lead out of the case & it felt like a very weak load & there seemed to be a lot of unburned powder in the cases .. Accuracy seemed ok & was supposedly in the 835 fps. But it sure seemed soft compared to the same bullet loaded with 3.0 gr of Bullseye !

I am shooting all my 38 special reloads out of 357 magnum revolvers ( Ruger Blackhawk-New Model w/6.5 " barrel & 19-3 S&W w/ 6" barrel

I bought a jug of N140 a while back. Just about to start working up a 308, 150 gr MEGA SP, in Lapua brass. For no other reason than I love Lapua. Will see how it goes, whipped up some at 43 grains to start.
