XCR/SL8 Help Needed.

Got rid of my AR when I bought a place up here in Canada 8yrs ago. I've mourned enough and am looking for another semi.

I'm looking at XCR-L .223 and SL8-5 and SL8-10 .223 for coyote hunting and some paper play.

I shoot left handed and need honest feedback/advice on either of the two platforms. MOA accuracy is important.

So please give me the down low before I buy. What you like, don't like....
 
I'd like to see an accuracy comparison between the two!

There are more XCRs in canada than SL8s. The XCR also cost less. I bet you that there is far better warranty coverage with the XCR ( if purchased from wolverine suppplies. )

There are more gun nuts here who hunt with the XCR than you think.
 
HK can be converted to stanag mags with a magwell adapter. Then you're good with LAR mags. The charging handle on the SL8 is ambi, in that it can be turned out either side for use. Ejection ports are about the same. SL8 would prolly shoot more accurate. Heavy barrel, so may not be the easiest to lug around on foot. XCR-L - I've shot one a few times and didn't really like it that much.
 
Spent some time at the 100y range today with my XCR-L hbar along with a friend shooting his SL8. Both shooting from a bench supported, both rifles shot more than 1 sub moa group of 3 with the SL8 being slightly more consistent with accuracy, all my 5 round groupings were 1-2". SL8 was shooting hand loads, XCR was shooting Hornady steel match.

Ergo's I prefer the XCR, but the SL8 stock and thumb hole works with me well so I can't hate on it like some will, you'll have to get a hold of one to know.
 
i have a sl8 and had it over a year now.
i havent really done much long range shooting/hunting with the rifle.
all the kills i have had have been within 100yards

it took me months before i picked the HK and i was seriously looking at the XCR also,only because the HK is a quality
built rifle i decided to jump on one.you get what you pay for is what i have learnt in the past.
issues have been down to me and choice of pistol mags(i took the plunge and put the NEA magwell in).

here is a recent range outing just to check on how the rifle was at 25yards(i was also somewhat jaded that morning)

i wont be selling this rifle ever but i cannot speak for how a XCR handles
 
SL8 is cheaper than the XCR or at least it was when I bought mine and if wolverine has stock again

I would take the SL8 over the XCR but I am biased after having a very poor and frustrating experience with the XCR.

If you do decide on the SL8 I would suggest modifying G36 Pmags to work in the gun rather than the cheaper AR conversions as it is a far superior system IMO. The G36 mag is arguably the best system to date from any manufacturer.

My stock SL8 with quality ammo shot considerably better than the XCR I had in my safe for some time. what are people spending the $6000 on the SL8 getting in terms of performance improvements?

Check out the posts on the thread I highlighted by CR5 and Moe. They're the guys that did it IIRC. The $6000 may be an exaggeration!
I reread the other thread. They were talking about other rifles. My mistake. Either way, the SL-8 still beats the XCR.
 
The rifle shoots from factory though with good ammo, spending money on making it look like a G36, space gun, etc are not improvements that are needed in terms of getting accuracy from the gun.

The XCR I had did not shoot and I am not sure what could be done to make it accurate even with $6000 as the design is not condisive to being accurate with the barrel retention method.

I agree on both points.
I only shoot factory AE and Win from my .223s and don't handload so MOA is not a factor for me. If I was concerned about accuracy, I'll take a bolt over a semi anyday but it takes too long to cycle a bolt when there are so many zombies out there!:runaway:
 
What about a left hand shooter? Any hot brass in the face issues with either?

Also is the Canadian model SL8 mag double or single stack? What about the XCR L?
The ones I'm pricing show the SL8 cheaper of the 2 by about 2-3 hundred.

I like the features on XCR but I have used HK products previously. I never heard of XCR until I came here. We all use ARs pretty much in the States.
Mostly looking for the best fit for my needs. Weight isn't a big deal, my hide/over bait bolt rig is about 14 lbs and I use a Gunrunner from Eberlestock to carry it.
 
My XCR is as accurate as any AR I have ever shot. I would recommend one with a light profile barrel as it really improves the balance and weight of the rifle. Oh and mine never had a screw come loose ever. If they are properly tightened you shouldnt have a problem.
 
Sl8 all the way. I was gonna get sl8 with ar magwell and hera gen 2 pistol grip conversion so i could slap on an acr folding stock but then a non res acr popped up lol...
