CGN Cold-Bore Challenge

Thanks, I suspect I will be alone for a while ... until some other "retirees" who can manage frequent trips to their Range show up.
Group agg is a tad under mid-3 thanks to the smallest group shot on final day that measured 0.11

Well I get crow for dinner. Screwed up on day 4.

I have no excuse for missing that shot but I know what I did wrong: Pay attention and check for canting :bangHead:

Having failed, I then shot the offending circle several more times to make sure it was dead.

100 meters (109 yards) .308 AW, SB 3-12, TAB rear bag, Parker Hale Bipod.

Nice rig and good shooting anyways! Got to say I was nervous with my last target and took particular care. Fortunately, the wind was at my back and all the stars lined up to give me a 0.11 group.

I saw that one in there, phenomenal shooting man! Even though I did not make it, it felt good knocking the center out of target 4 as revenge haha. I will try this again down the road.

Here's my attempt at the cold bore challenge. Sorry, it's not the "approved" target. This was from today (Sunday). It was my 5 shot group to sight in at 300 metres. First shots of the day...cold bore:

Remington 700 Police 26" heavy bbl
NF NXS 5.5-22x56
Mpod

(basically stock)

Here's my second entry from October 11, 2014. Again, sorry for the unapproved target. The distance was 300 metres and it was my first 5 shots of the day.

Remington 700P
NF 5.5-22x56
Mpod
Hornady Z-Max 168gr (zombie)

I like it. Shooting a tight group is one thing...actually hitting what you are aiming at is another. Especially if using .1 Milrad clicks. It never lines up perfectly on your POA at 100m. I always find myself holding off a few mm or so.

X2.............

The last two years I shot the BCRA Sniper/Precision rifle match we had a cold bore shot at 600 meters to start off the second day...........Targets were Fig. 12s........chin was the V-Bull............nailed the chin both those years......... :)

I would have entered my third cold bore results, but... There was a rifle shooting competition at the range today. I was there at 11am, but it did not start until noon. The RO was kind enough and gave me permission to shoot for around 30 minutes before the competition started (nice guy).

I was in such a rush that I forgot my scope was zeroed at 200m and I was shooting at 300m. I wrecked two targets and shot my first 5 rounds before I figured it out.

I'm still a newb.

How many posters experience a significant and predictable difference in POI between the cold bore shot and the rest of the shoots in the first group? My brother's 700 in 300WM shoots the cbs about 2"low@300M. A couple of the posted targets looked similar.

I may have to try this challenge.

I've got a new rifle with 41 rounds down range so far setting my zero and getting some dope.

Here's 3 cold bore shots at 350m or 383 yds. back in Oct. when I purchased.

As Swissin mentioned, groups mean little if you miss. As you can see my dope was off a little.

Well, for shootong this CHALLENGE, he knows to hold 0.6" high for that first shot.

I am going to give it a try when I decide what I want to use for a front rest....... Being a short Range BR shooter I have all the gear for my BR rifles but nothing that would fit into this challenge. I may have to buy a CHEAP table top Bi-pod or make up a few sand bags for a front rest......

Then I will test out my factory Rem 700 .223 Tactical. Have decent grouping loads so time to put it to the coldbore challenge.
