CGN Cold-Bore Challenge

Gave this a go today, not sure if it's a pass or fail as I'm touching the edges of the circle. This was a clean cold bore, I was gonna wait until next time I was out with a fouled cold bore but figured what the heck, might as well try this with a CCB. After the third shot I made a 1cm adjustment right and fired 47 more rounds and the zero stayed center. I'm interested to see if I have a 1/10 mil right impact next time I clean the barrel or if this was just me.

FWIW when I printed the target from the link, the colour(black) came out very faint, like light grey but the dots were exactly 1". When I saved the picture and printed it the black came out nice and dark but the dots were only 0.950". After checking with the calliper the three shots should have been in the circle if it were a full 1". Either way...

Here's a pic that shows the "smaller dots". Maybe everyones is like that??
 
Here's a picture of a Cold Bore shot Swissin made with his North Shore Barrelitos 30-338LM at 1200m. This was awhile back pretty good for mexican reloads;-)

 
Jay - Not sure why the link printed light dots. Mine are perfectly black so I am wondering if your pdf program is setting the printer to the "fast draft" setting?

Those shots are all well within the hit area for either size dot so it doesn't look like it will make a difference for you. I figure it should be centre of bullet (as close as can be guessed) has stay on the black to be a hit which avoids the inequalities between bullet diameter.

DG - that's impressive to hit a soda bottle at 1200 never mind first shot. The wind call was amazing to hit dead centre.

Thanks Steve, I'll do some messing around with the settings and see if I can figure it out.

Sounds good, that's what I figured but wasn't sure. Should make the challenge more fair, I was already thinking if/when I fail with the 308 the 223 would be the next attempt just to have more wiggle room.

Hopefully I'll have a chance to try "Day Two" today...
 
I will post up my results just got to print out a target. It would be fun to try at 100,200 and 300. This morning tried it at 100 on my own target at 100 meters with the PGW C-18 and factory ammo I let the barrel sit 20 min between shots it was about 6 out pretty chilly. I was successful but it only counts if its on an official target so will have to wait until I get out again.
 
OP ... Is the "official" target all permitted or can we draw our own circles ... not sure why, but my attempts at printing from the link only show the left side of the target panel and the dots are .75".
 
As long as the dots are one inch i don't think it matters if it is the official target. I had the same thing trying to print from google and found that if you download the target from the link then print from a pdf reader it fixes the issue.

I went out two days ago before work for the second day of the challenge only to find a 4ft gravel berm across the entrance of where I go to shoot 200yds or less. Then I went to another spot that I used to go to and it now has a gate with lock... So I'm starting to get low on time and I find a spot to shoot but the way the terrain is can only set up targets at 80 or 160yds. I only had about 30min until I had to hit the road so I just shot some groups at a clean section on someone's old target at 160yds. My POI was about 1" low and centred left to right at 160" so I felt good about that, there wasn't any deviation from my cold bore shot to the rest so that was good also.

Then I got a real stupid idea, I never did zero out my windage turret after I got my initial zero on the rifle days before so I thought I would do it now. I'm not sure if I didn't release the screws enough or what but after resetting them back to zero I was impacting 2 0.2mil right which is what I slipped the turret. I made the adjustment and and all seemed good after that. Later that night at home while I was cleaning the bolt I zeroed the windage turret again making sure to back out the set screws lots so hopefully i'm good now but I currently have no confidence in my zero. Could be worse I guess, I could have done all this after the fourth day LOL. Not a big deal to start over at this point.

I should have a chance to make a attempt on the way home from work today with any luck.
 
This is going to be a real challenge for me ... Did my zero using a front rest and had no difficulty keeping three groups inside the dots, and then put my Harris bipod on ... it is simply too tall. I tried prone, but would have needed an air mattress to get high enough. Tried on the bench, but pretty much need to kneel on a chair or stand up to get the barrel level. Looks like I may be thwarted by the bipod requirement for this challenge as I don't need a six inch bipod for hunting so won't buy one just for this challenge. Hopefully, I can get creative ... don't want anybody suggesting that group shooters can't adjust their scope to shoot score:)
 
Looks like I wrote that longwinded post above for nothing , attempted day two today and my zero was on the money... however the nut behind the trigger wasn't and pulled the 2nd shot just outside the circle. Oh well I'll try again.

I'll update with pics when I have some more time.
 
693 - Just want to double check to make sure I am on the right track before I start the Challenge. First, that a target like the one below is OK (Can't get the print thing figured out). Must be shot with bipod front rest. Rear bag/support is OK.
Today, I overcame the high bipod issue with a block under the rear rest and a couple of seat pads under my butt to get me high enough. Did a test run with all groups shot in succession at 100M. Since cold round is usually "in the group", I am optimistic I can rise to the challenge in spite of the wobbly, foot-long Harris bipod:)

Wow, the rifle and it's driver are doing a fine job there.
 
Thanks, this rifle is one of several that are quite capable. A good learning experience for me as I have never shot at paper from a bipod previously. It took a little more attention than a front rest, I suspect because my bipod is a light 25" telescoping Harris made for hunting. Fortunately, 3 shot groups can be pretty forgiving, and I had to make an adjustment after the first group.
 
JEC- nice shooting especially considering the tall bipod! You could also shoot off a pack if you want since that is a field expedient front rest. I don't see any reason that target wouldn't be acceptable for the challenge, as long as you don't just draw the circles around the groups :D
 
Thanks, I hope to get started by the weekend. Will keep the circles equidistance in a straight line to give others confidence that I am not shooting groups and the drawing the circles around them ... The one thing about "challenges" is that they are about personal satisfaction, not competition ... so anyone inclined to cheat is only cheating themselves. Also, most shooters taking up these challenges are usually well known at their local range and/or by a number of shooting buddies ... that would "out" any potential "fudging". I will try to figure out the download, but my success with computer stuff lags some back of my shooting:)
 
For people that are having problems printing the target, a simple way to make a legit target would be to draw a line with a ruler across and then draw 1" circles on top of it, done. Should rule out any nay sayers that are jealous and :ang.
