Wholesale Sports??? Dont hold your breath

I ordered some Varget online from WSS around Christmas and had it delivered in 3 days. Free shipping too.
Checked the Langley store stock on some bullets then drove there and they were on the shelf. The last 3 boxes.

I agree, have always found anything I've needed and the staff to be quite helpful.... no complaints here....
 
My experience with them has been mostly very bad. I buy my gun stuff over the phone now from Prophet River or Corlain Sports. (I live in Kamloops.) It always goes well. Brian

I have to give some credit to the WSS in S'Toon. There was a fella that worked the gun counter who was always extremely helpful when it came to reloading questions I had when I started out. And of course this was the older location just up and around the corner (Faithful Ave)from where it is now. I try to make a stop when passing thru.
I passed on this info to my brother when he decided to get into reloading years later and he said the same thing, a very knowledgeable employee who is there for the customer and does'nt bull$*it them.

I'm gonna have to hit the bass pro on the way back from Cgy tomorrow and see who this guy is. if he's working.

I ordered everything I needed to get into reloading a few years ago, press,dies,scale, I mean everything. It was supposedly all in stock and I got confirmation as well. Got a call 1 week later that out of everything I ordered the only thing they had was the one set of dies. The press was on backorder and could take up to 6 months and they wanted to know if I would still like the dies. I said forget it and ordered from cabelas with no problems and have ordered from them ever since.
 
I for one hope that WSS survives in WPG and we don't see the tumbleweeds blowing through the store. The staff that I encounter are very good. Yes, the stock on the shelves is not so hot. And you do have best luck ordering direct from Calgary all by yourself. Even the staff in the store will tell you that. Calgary does not ship to the Wpg store until there is a large crate full to go. WWS is good competition to help keep prices in check with the other stores.

I now consider WSS as a convenience store, hit or miss I don't order anything from them anymore.

A month ago I went to your store in Nanaimo, I was looking for reloading components.
Your shelves were almost empties, I mainly needed bullets for my rifle.
I talked to one of your staff (Tony) outstanding person by the way.
And he place an order for the bullet I was looking for IE: Berger VLD Hunting 0.277, 140gr. For 200 bullets.
I provide him with my personal information.
2 weeks after (23th October) I received a phone call from Nanaimo store, saying my bullets were there.
I live at Comox, 130km x two =260km away, more than three hours’ drive back and forth.
My vehicle is a F-150, no need to say it is not feeding on steam, but on gasoline at $ 1.29 per liter. Roughly it cost me $50 in gas just to go to your store.
The next day : 24 October, I did the trip for Nanaimo to grab the bullets.
Tony was not working, I young man was there to take care of me instead.
I told him I received the phone call for the bullets, he went in the back store and came back with my order (paper copy) and the boxes. They were far to be what I have ordered, they were Berger VLD, 0.244, 95gr.
The young man was really confused, so do I.
The order was fine (paper copy), so it mean it went through at least three pairs of hands and nobody notice the mistake.
They didn’t match the order
The warehouse, the shipping department, the service department….
I left your store empty handed.
This week I received another call about this order, I went back there today and it was the right bullets now.
Tony was there, I told him what happened, he was really not impressed neither, but offered me a very small discount 10%= $12.

I`m extremely disappointed about this situation,
I don’t think I will ever do business with your store having to deals with such mediocrity.
Cabela`s opened their doors right next to your store in Nanaimo, I think I will transfers my business with them, they look concerned about customer satisfaction.
 
Some of the trouble at WSS is that the store is owned by a Grocery Chaine. These guys are only looking at the bottom line. The go getters like Brad are gone.
What do Grocery clerks know or care about guns etc. They even stopped taken guns in on consignment. I don't know if they even take a gun on a trade in.

The wholesale sports in Winnipeg has really gone done the last year or so, at least in my opinion. Last time I was in there, this fall, I wanted steel shot. This was a week before duck hunting was to open at the beginning of September. They had none and told me it was very hard to get this year and would be quite expensive. Stopped at Cabela's on the way home (which is far closer to me now that they moved) and they had rows of steel shot of all brands at regular prices. I have not been back to WSS since and don't plan on it. The last time I was at WSS it was a Sunday afternoon. There was 4 cars on the parking lot including mine. At Cabela's you could hardly find a parking spot. I think the end is near for WSS in Winnipeg.

I was looking at Leupold scopes they started spewing that I should be looking at Vortex instead I told them that I prefer Leupold.

Next thing I hear they were asking if Leupold covers my scope under warranty if I shot it I told them I don't shoot my scopes I use them to shoot.

What if I drove over my Leupold scopes would Leupold cover the warranty I told them I don't drive over my scopes/rifles either.

These guys got so intense spewing about Vortex and their for any reason warranty.

I started to laugh I'd never listened to such a load of stupid I started to walk away from them shaking my head telling them what I thought of them and that I still have my first 2 Leupold Vari X 11 3-9X40 scopes that I bought new 35 years ago.

Great story! Lol! It truely amazes me how some guys behind the sales counter can know so little about a product and be sooooo convinced of utter nonsense!

Cabela's is almost a family adventure now though, the kids know they can always pester me for some fudge and my wife loves the athletic and outdoor gear. The whole family comes with to pick up daddy's newest toy and we walk out a couple hundred bucks poorer.
 
Funny stories, you should try working there sometime - then you will experience the reall nutty ones....

Customers are king - even when they really have no idea what they are talking about -(90%of the knobs walking into the shop)

Customers are king - behind the gun counter all WSS have these imaginary warehouses, stocked to the brim with the most obscure crap that you can imagine - just on the off chance you - dear king, should require it once in your lifetime

Customers are king - they think all WSS staff are magicians, they can pull rifles, powder, bullets and all sorts out of their but holes while everybody else in Canada hasn't seen the same stock for months

Customers are king - they ask the youngest and least experienced staff member (part time school kid) the toughest questions that even gun smiths would struggle with, and expect immediate response - all to impress the knob who walked in two seconds after him

Customers are king - when they can't get instant gratification to fuel their shopping dependency - they simply start throwing tantrums like children - but the customer is king!


Anyone else want to tell us some more funny tales from their shopping woes at WSS?

And I don't even work there - this is just from standing and watching what goes on in a store on any given Saturday morning!

I've spent my fair share of time in gun stores over the years, in Canada and the US, most often waiting to be the next called to ogle a rifle,etc. I agree wholeheartedly that most customers are complete knobs and I feel sorry for the salesmen having to listen to their nonsense. 99% of the conversations I hear are customers "educating" anyone who'll listen.
