So these have been on the market a few years. And I just love the looks of the things. Every once and again used ones pop up for sale. Not so much anymore though. But right now one is listed on another site for $2575!!! It's obviously not selling. But the seller states "This pistol is only number 27 out of only 250 made for International sale, (Canada) also with a very, very low serial number."

This leads me to wonder what happened to the first 17? Or is this fellow full of it. I own one, will it make me money one day. Nobody knows. It just may but it may not. That's really important because I bought mine because I like it.
So who has one? Did you buy it new, used what. What's the story of your gun?

Ill start. I have number 22, got it BNIB second hand here on CGN. A good friend also has #186 I believe. He got his brand new from Corlanes in Dawson Creek BC.

Oh and for those who want one but never got the chance. According to google Kelly's has one for $1400

I have one

Bought it new. I'm keeping it bnib so I can retire early upon its sale....

When I first joined this forum I would see these for sale every other day on the EE in the $1000 range. I debated on getting one then and decided to wait... I wish I hadn't. I haven't seen one on the EE for quite some time now...

Got one stoked away in a safe, new in box and display case beauty, will have to look to see the number, some days I want to shoot it some I want to keep it and some I want to sell it. Certainly is nice, delivered and taxes in cost just around $1500 so $1000 would be a steal, if anyone wants one check sfrc they may still have some. Also just a regular S&W 1911 is going for almost that now!

Number 182 of 250 International Edition.

I fired a few Hundred rounds down range so far and I am really enjoying it.
The Pistols Hammer, Trigger, & Mainspring Housing are in a safe place.

So S&W makes a 100 year anniversary edition of a pistol they have only been making for 8 years at that time....
They also don't make it look like an original 1911, they just added some engraving to the E series they make which is pretty much like any other enhanced style of the modern 1911....
And this is somehow going to appeal to collectors and appreciate in value...

I am not a collector, but if I were I would have purchased an original 1911 (Colt). Personally I am glad that all 1911 pistols do not look like the original.
I shoot mine but take care of it. That is where the appeal lies for me. I have come to appreciate the value in using my plain old E-series with roll markings.
I Keep the parts I swapped out safe just in case unforseen problems force me to sell it for what I can.
IMOHO the pistol is too nice not to shoot.

A commemorative is a tribute gun to a gun that is a true collectors item and worth a substantial amount of money. Most of these types of pieces are often bought up and everyone leaves them unfired or in display, so even though there's 250 all are usually mint. In 1912 colt produced 17250 1911's how many went unfired or in mint condition? I'm going to guess a lot less then 250. In 1914 there were 42,195 pistols built, 5000 of them cdn contract pistols, 2011 there was 250 S&W's built, which would you rather have? I'm not trying to take away from the pistol but to me it's cheesier then Winchester commemoratives.

There's an axiom.... things made specifically to be "collectible" usually aren't.

Personally, it's the external extractor that keeps me away from those type of 1911 clones.

I understand what you are trying to say, however, it is not an original it is only meant to commemorate a very fine firearm, i do believe everyone would like to have and original 1911 made in the first few years, especially a canadian version, but you would pay a kings ransom for one in any shape much less unfired. these are very nice Smith and Wesson .45's and have a lot of extras on them, not meant to look exactly like the originals, and for the money,( about the same as a Smith .45 is going for now)! Why not get one if you are in the market for a Smith .45. the added bonus is there were only 250 made like this with the scroll work serial # and extra bits! Great deal of you ask me, 100th anniversary or not!

Very well said Sir.

I'd pay more NOT to have that scroll work and all that other writing crap on there.....and an internal extractor, and series 70 guts....
To each his own I guess....

So....you're saying I shouldn't have retired yet thinking my SW1911commemerative gun is going to facilitate that?

I think your retirement is probably already very well funded in spite of the anniversary model S&W gracing the wall of your man room. :)

I understand what you are saying, It is probably a nice pistol, not for me but that's what great about the firearm market, there's something out there for everyone. My point was to collectability and value won't likely be there as you probably know. Who knows 50 years down the road if I'm still alive I may kick myself for not buying one.
