Gatehouse,
Well, if you belong to survivalist movement, then your Wartak rail will be a No No.
Having the MAG doesn't exclude the loading procedure does it?
Then having a striper clip loading into your mag is much easier and faster than one by one manual way with the mag, right?
Of course, if you aren't a survivalist and use this gun for fun only w/ o additional options or potential, then yes, I agree w/ you Wartak rail looks cool, convenient and long as well.
Again about 75$ for your SKS, You'd agree that most of the people buy their SKSes in Whole Sales Sports, Cabelas, Canadian Tire etc, etc, and the price is much higher. Of course, you were lucky, may be you bought it 30 years ago ?
Show me plz the current price like that, I'd like to know where is that place, lots of my friends will go there and buy 5 SKSes/ per person for that price.
I totally agree w/ you that my list looks funny, until SHTF and your scope is down and w/o iron sights, the rifle will be by enlarge useless and not precise on distances >50 m.
And then not being able to load from above...and spending 3-5 x times more time trying to load your gun with shaky hands....
Besides, loading the mag with the stripper clip, doesn't exclude the fact that you have a convenient MAG. Stripper clips is not a mag substitution, it is rather the effective loading procedure with the possibility to carry much more ammo on you.
Again all these doesn't matter if you use it for fun, until SHTF and then we'll see.
