The planned upgrade for the Canadian Ranger Rifle!

I may not be a "weapons tech", but bedding a Number 4 is NOT rocket science. If I can do it and get it to shoot, then so can anyone with half an operative brain.

BTW, whatever they decide on just AIN'T gonna look scary enough unless it's BLACK and has a shoulder thing that goes up.

Happy New Year Smellie! I found one with a shoulder thing!...

What's wrong with DND calling the Indian government and asking them to produce 10,000 No4 rifles in 303 - it'll cost a lot less, and the Indians could do the whole thing in less than a year, while they're at it they could order a full suite of spares and we'd be good for another 70 years. Note that the Indian Armoury at Ishapore still produces No4 rifles in 8mm for the home market, so a 308 Lee is a possibility, at a cost that would allow for double the required number of rifles, plus parts.

And I guess they'd do a rail too.

On Cabelas Canada today: Ruger American in .308 with scope- $679.99. For the intended uses what more could be needed? Buy 1000 and get a bigger discount.

One of the requirements is that it has to be produced at Colt Canada. I don't know why myself. There are all kinds of gun manufacturers in Canada that could build one.

With the record of the canadian government in arming its soldiers at home ; I'm figuring they'll probably be issued potato guns but when some panty waist realizes this thing could be lobbing frozen taters and someone might get hurt they'll be downgraded to water pistols which when frozen will be as ineffective as the canadian government in defending or maintaining canadian arctic sovereignty.
AND I am NOT being Sarcastic.

The domestic aspect is for logistics, in theory, during time of war.

The colt Canada part, I'd imagine has to do with pre-existing arangements or Long Term Contracts

And the Russians have nuclear power ice-breakers that can hang around for a long time...

What do we have?

Russian economy is about to come to a crashing halt, big time. I doubt they would have the resources a year from now to give these things a grease job. Then again, you never know, these are Russians we're talking about and they are very resourceful people.

FFS, pick up the telephone, call CZ and tell whomever picks up that you want 10,000 kevlar carbines in 308 and say 1000 spare bolts and various other parts. Then call NECG and order around 11,000 peep sights.

Some people must be retarded, in case of a real shooting war the last thing needed is the ability to build a few bolt action rifles. There are millions of suitable rifles in this country that could be loaned for the duration in case of emergency.

they will probably be re-issued after the next erection er election.
What a sorry state of affairs; this really isn't funny ; successive canadian governments have NOT treated our fighting men and women with the respect they deserve or outfitted them with the proper equipment they need and deserve;.
They have all taken the opportunity to depend on our southern neighbours to protect us due to our proximity.Another of our allies-Australia due to its distance fom Britain and the USA has had to spend big time on equipment and manpower; NO free ride there.
Our government all of them should be ashamed.

The new rifle will have to be bolt action or similar, correct? Or maybe through an oversight in judgment they will issue the Rangers with AR variants and unknowingly create a hunting loophole and Non-restricted status for them? I'll instantly sign up to be a Southern-Northern Ranger :)
(A boy can dream...)
