Hey Everyone,

I recently picked up a nice CSA Vz58 from another member here. I was thinking of replacing the beaver barf with something else and maybe toy around with a muzzle brake. I started to look at some AR style butt stocks and one thing that stood out is the downward angle of many of the offerings. I personally prefer a straight stock inline with the barrel, but I've only found two offerings. There is the HK style stock as seen here:

I like the price tag of the Canadaammo model, too bad they're all out. The HK looks slick, but aside from the fact that there aren't any left, I'd also wonder if there are comfort issues with the skinny pad on that stock. So a couple of questions:

1 - anyone know of a solid, reasonably well priced AR style stock that has no downward angle at all? What vendors?

2 - Anyone have experience with the HK style stock? What are your impressions? Any vendors?

3 - What is a good, budget-minded muzzle brake? I don't care that much about functionality as much as form. Not like the cartridge is a beast. Just some badass looking choices.

I haven't tried the linear comp yet but I'd like to.

Google search, those videos are from forum members and there are more videos like these.

Be sure the brake/comp is being shot on a similar barrel length, the leverage on the long barrel has a tendency to force the barrel down too much compared the the shorter barrels most devices were designed for.
 
I have the stormwerkz adapter and an AKFX folding stock on one of my vz58's. It's expensive but it is a Very nice stock. It's my favorite.
I'd not reccommend it for a rifle that's just going to have iron sights or even the nea Handguard. It has a lot of height adjustment but i find you have to go really low with it and it gets to a point where the corners of the adapter are rubbing on your hand. It is the perfect stock for optics using the railed dust cover, short optic mount or the scout mount seen in pics. Here's a couple pics

Wow, that video was an eye opener. Never considered a brake might force the barrel down like that. Thanks for the info!

That is a nice stock. You know where it might be available? It's definitely a contender.
 
Wood always felt best to me, proper cheek weld, a tad heavier than the beaver barf... just feels 'right' and well balanced when shooting.

Nobody that I know of right now in Canada. A bunch came into the country before the 858 debacle and not much since. I had 5 sets, kept one and sold the rest on the EE about 6 months ago. There might be some on the EE, post a WTB ad. I bought a couple sets on there.

There are some sets from the Czech Republic on Ebay, but they are expensive and used. Here's one in good condition on Ebay currently:

Matching stain on different types and shades of wood isn't easy either... I must say that the coolest set I had was a beat up one from the same guy on Ebay, stained it like 'Tula' SKS wood and it came out great. It still cost me a lot of time and money for beat up wood though.

Dlask has some nice NOS sets, unsure if they're completely matched, for $249. Still rather pricey in my opinion.

Glad I grabbed a set while they were still cheap. My set doesn't match completely and the grain isn't "pretty" but it works and provides a nice balance.

As for compensators the 8-port military style works great on 18.6" barrels. It's big and heavy but works like a charm.

I'm still shopping around for another compensator to mount on an other rifle. I want the Zendl compensator.

I hear it's very effective and it comes in two models. One for right hand shooters and one for lefties. Unsure how it fairs on 18.6" barrels... Although I might just risk it eventually
 
Are you guys still interested in wood sets? Our price would be almost same as it was before just currency exchange difference since our dollar dropped a bit
