Bear fear is a great motivator. Northman999 had the most practical point I've seen in a while. I'd copy his post but I don't know how.

My only 'up close and personal' experience with a bear was solved by a 165gr Nosler Accubond at 2850fps from my 30-06, muzzle pressed firmly in the armpit of a 300lb boar as he had his meat hooks and teeth firmly attached to my dog's behind. I wrote it up http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/showthread.php?107205-Black-Bear-Kombat. The bullet travelled through the chest, the upper arm muscles and stopped in the elbow. Around 30" of penetration. Bullet weighs 117gr for 71% weight retention. That being said, I think the mono-metal style bullets have a slight edge in penetration and weight retention.

For the best Bear defense you need to start with a fox hole, sand bags piled no less than 3 high. Clear brush and trees for 200yards. Set your Browning 1919 up to give a full arc of fire in the direction that is the most likely place the bear will mount it's charge. And ALWAYS watch your flanks.

As we speak, I've e-mailed another classic Archie to you that I've had saved on my computer in "Favorites", "Archie Bunker on Gun Control".

And just to add a 350 mag with a 225 partition works very well bullet placement 1 1/2" below the eye at 20 feet on a black bear And a 300 mag does OK at 120 yds broadside with a 150 sst although quite messy. These were the last two bears I've been in on but they weren't crazed and charging with eyes like Lucifer, not really a defense situation. There are many books on the subject but they are all wrong.

I'm not on the TTSX (or TSX) wagon for this scenario... a charging bear is where I would want a Partition or Cup and Core... a nice big chunk of soft lead directly applied to the cranium... in this scenario, I don't give a ratz azz about penetration and controlled expansion... JMO... carry on...
So what's wrong with a ttsx are they going to bounce off or be unable to do damage to a bear's cranium? I load 150 ttsx for my buddy's 308 that used to be mine for hunting everything btw can't see a cup and core doing better for any scenario I can think of.
I didn't say they were a bad choice and "bounce off" is your ludicrous statement... I said it was JMO (should I define that for you?), that a Part or C&C would do that particular job better... as in; impart MORE immediate shock... again J.ust M.y O.pinion... was not trying to disparage your baby...
I've got no dog in the race I was just trying to understand your logic. I've had experiences ranging from weird to WTF just happened?? to well, its dead I guess. .. with C and C bullets I'm not at all a fan of most of them.
