Is there a shortage of .22 ammo everywhere?

"Shortage" real or not?

Is there really a shortage or is it a manufactured shortage? [ie rumour of shortage, people buy out existing stocks of .22 thereby creating a shortage - self perpetuates].

Also gives retailers a chance to jack up the price of .22 ammo.

Remember in the not too distant past when 500 rd bricks of Win Wildcat were $17? Try & find any 500 rd bricks anywhere under $40 now.

More like $15 out the door taxes included for federal 525's.
The only thing I can say right now is we should all be buying the suplrus 7.62x39 as it's still very close to the same price it was when bulk .22 was $12.00.

I got a .22 1911 from Colt, and I gave up on it. I can't find High Velocity ammo for it. It was supposed to be a "cheap" gun to use so I could get comfortable with guns again after a long time away from them. But with ammo so hard to find for it, I gave up. I went out and bought a 9mm, a IWI Jericho. Ammo's about 4-5X as expensive, but I can actually FIND it.
Everything I've read, viewed, heard from people says the number of people getting into shooting has almost doubled in the past 5-10 years. So we have a LOT more people buying ammo now then we did 10 years ago. Ammo production just hasn't kept up.

WOW, that's sad, you should have kept it. 22's out number center fire by a huge margin in my collection.
The shortage will turn around, as did the primer shortage two years ago, and the last great 7.62X25 drought. Now it's 22 ammo and smokeless powder.

I find that .22 ammo is a bit scarce you can always find something. But it is take what they got and at that price or go home empty handed. The price is what burns me. I just bought one box of Wildcats for $4.99 I used to get it for $1.25 a box.

with the scarcity of .22 I tend to shoot more centerfire.

In my area .22 are hard to find or completely out of price..... 50$ for 500AE .22lr. Seriously it's a steal. I try to support local dealers but when they jack the price that much I buy my ammo on Internet.

None on the shelves around here, but thankfully I hoarded up, years ago.
Hasn't saved me any money, though, 'cause I've been giving it away to close friends and relatives.

Being the official supplier of 22 LR for my grandkids, when i have a chance at a brick, i go for it... JP.

I'm in southern Ontario and there is quite a bit of .22 ammo in my area. CCI mini mags and Remminton Yellow Jackets are everywhere... Canadian Tire, Home Hardware, Walmart and all the local stores have them along with some of the cheaper stuff like the 555 or 333.
Same around the Windsor area, can even buy RWS and Eley locally if I want.

A quick check on Canadiantire.ca shows me there is no stock of CCI Mini Mags of any kind in any stores around Toronto. Where are you seeing these mini mags?

Born and raised in Toronto. Thought that it was the centre of the universe until I opened my eyes and moved away! I said Southern Ontario! Try 1.5 - 2 hrs north west. lol. The local guy has cases of mini mags. Never had to buy a case but a box of 1000 is $9.99 taxes in. I have about a thousand round on hand and there is always .22 available in this area so I just buy them by the box. No need to over stock!

I assume that is $9.99 per 100. Does the local guy do mailorder?
Would love to know who?

Typo on the price??

Seems to be hit or miss from what people are saying on here. I went to 3 retailers and there is nothing. I don't want to spend $500 or so for a pistol that I have to drive all over the city to try and find ammo. Thats time that could be spent shooting, honing my skills.
Going the 9mm route would be ok but adds up pretty quick if you want to spend any time on the range.
Its why I'm looking at the conversion kit for the sig......at least I can get ammo for it. But the initial investment just to begin will be kinda high.
Thanks for the input guys.

Declare a typo, or post a name, or my credulity, which stretches out to Sirius when necessary, is snapped. I used to shoot 1000 rounds in at the most 2 or 3 sessions, so that number doesn't really impress me, it's the price quoted.

I've been buying it whenever I am in the store and they have some. I've had my pal for 7 months now and have amassed almost 11000 rounds. Like it had been said, it's out there.

Edit: I should add that 7500 or so rounds were purchased for $350 in a local private sale that I just could not pass up!

Probally mid week I'll have time to go through what I have, & could give some up in trade for .308. That's what I'm currently short of! Gun shows are hit n' miss, I've usually found decent deals, & it's fun to go. If it's not,{decent deal} simple, don't buy.
