I signed up for the course/competition a couple of weeks ago.
You do NOT need holster qualification, but if you are holster qualified (it will be entirely up to the Gunslingers guys to confirm/accept your qualification), you CAN holster on this course, but you're not required to.
For those who aren't qualified, you CANNOT use a holster. From what I understand is the pistol will be stationed on a table on the course, you pick it up and shoot, then move to the second gun (carbine), put the pistol down and pick up the carbine.
Also, there will be ONE shooter only on the range at a time. Other shooters will be stationed in a holding area awaiting their turn to shoot (again, from what I understand there will be refreshments while you wait). No one gets to see the course of fire until it's your turn to shoot. Full briefing will be given to all shooters in the holding area, and then again on the range before you shoot.
FYI, I shoot at UT a couple of times every week (sometimes more). All the Gunslingers and UT staff are great guys/gals.
Looking forward to seeing some of you there! I'll be asking permission to shoot some video for my youtube channel (Battle Beaver), and I'll of course clear this with Gunslingers AND the shooters, I'll absolutely respect your desire NOT to be on camera if you so choose.
Can't wait!
Scott
