416 Rigby project ( more pics page 2)

The design of your rifle is really well thought out. The open grip should save you from needing a knuckle deflector, and the straight bolt shouldn't wrap the knuckle of your trigger finger. I don't usually use a barrel band sling swivel, preferring the front swivel to be located on the radius of the forend, but that would harm the the pleasing appearance of the short forend and the ebony forend tip of your rifle.

I only have two minor criticisms; first I wish the stock followed the line of the tang rather than rise above it, and the floorplate needs a Mauser style lever release rather than retaining the military button release.

That looks very nice indeed.

Now, you just need to clobber something big and nasty with it! (Preferably a cape buffalo or a pissed-off elephant!)

With 400 grains of pain reliever at 2,400 fps, you can't go wrong!

She's a beauty! With the barrel band sling stud, the front end looks weak without a banded iron sight... consider irons on that rifle... IMO it will balance the look, as well as provide a comforting back-up to the scope... particularly given the chambering and its likely uses.

I agree with all the suggestions regarding express sights , I would love to add them & maybe some day...
I did not include them now because...
1; it was time to get this done & burn some powder !
2; another $500 for a 3 leaf folding & banded front ramp...cash I just don't have right now & I am tired of parting with good guns to finance others.
3 ; my eyes ain't what they used to be ,I have others with express sights, Including a double, & I have trouble sometimes. Besides ,scope off I can sight down the Pipe& achieve minute of Walrus accuracy for anything close up & personal ;)
Another future mod will include a floor plate release..for now my #1 concern was making sure it wouldn't POP open under recoil or an accidental bump !
thank you all for the kind words , I will keep you informed . Ed

RE; BOOMER..."I only have two minor criticisms; first I wish the stock followed the line of the tang rather than rise above it, and the floorplate needs a Mauser style lever release rather than retaining the military button release."

I concur , I found the P-17 very challenging to work with , much machining & difficult to make it look graceful...it's no FN or M-70
Thanks Ed

Canadian made or any rifle from Canada to Zim?

Looked it up, on direct flight no but ok if through S.A. and forward on a separate flight?

you shouldnt have wrote that. we know all what some are doing but that doesnt mean it is legal ...

Canada had set up sanctions against sone countries and Zimbabwe is one of those.

legally a citizen or a resident of Canada shouldnt bring a firearms that he owns there due to embargo.

you should read here ..

w w w .international.gc.ca/sanctions/countries-pays/zimbabwe.aspx?lang=eng

but we are outside the op thread ...

No. To take a rifle out of the country you need an export permit (even for temporary export) approved through DFAIT. Zimbabwe is on the list of countries governed by Special Economic Measures. See the link...

http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/SOR-2008-248/FullText.html

To get an export permit to RSA and then to continue on to Zim, while possible, would likely result (if discovered) in charges. IIRC the fine for contravening SEM (Zimbabwe) is in the order of $10,000. There is an exemption under s13(c) of the SEM Regulations but it's not clear if DFAIT has actually issued any permits. I don't recall that clause being there at the time of my trip in 2010 and DFAIT wouldn't issue me a permit...unfortunately. The Regs were updated in January of 2015 but it's not clear if 13(c) was added then or prior.

13(c) is good news if it works as it should.
