In the process of streamlining my collection, I only 1 want handgun. The Glock seems like a no-brainer due to simplicity and reliability. But Smith and Wesson being around for much longer makes it a desirable product as well. I have no plans to get into competitive shooting or do any sort of modifications and owning both is not an option as I only want ONE. The M&P does fit my hand nicer but, the current dealbreaker is that extra step for taking it down. I don't ever want to deal with gunsmith wait times, I just sold 2 handguns with minor issues for that reason alone. So does the Glock make more sense for me?

Keep the one you can shoot more comfortably and accurately. They both excellent pistols. I shoot IPSC with my G17 and my wife shoots the M&P. Neither had any form of failure in roughly 10k rounds so far.

Totally agree ! Both are excellent and you will find people on both sides of the fence saying to go with one brand. It all comes down to feel and it's extremely personal. People may love and endorse a certain gun, but if it doesn't feel right, you won't be happy ! Both are great sellers for a reason. I myself shoot a M&P40, love it !!

Glock is the more durable and easier to maintain. Durable due to the materials and finish used, basically nothing can rust. Parts both OEM and aftermarket are available in Canada should you need them.
Smith is a nicer more refined gun however, but just for durability and simplicity I'd have to say Glock.

I own both and I'd have to say go for the Glock. It's more durable and has a longer track record. Glock has a way better trigger than the m&p.
I barely shoot my m&p because of the trigger and don't feel like putting 250$ worth of trigger part in a 600$ pistol to make it feel decent.
If you're willing to drop an extra couple hundred buck on a trigger upgrade go with m&p , it is a good pistol.

The M&P can be field stripped the same way as a Glock. Using the frame tool/grip insert retainer just eliminates the need to pull the trigger.

I've seen exactly 1 failure (fte) with a Glock but more stoppages of all kinds than i care to count with various M&P's from a variety of shooters at multiple events and casual shoots.

YMMV.

Both are perfectly suitable, but if the S&W M&P (the one to which I am admittedly partial) fits your hand better, go with it. The takedown is easy.

Had both and lots of other high end polymer pistols

I shoot glock now and have been for 1 year and it has become my all time fav!

i started with glock 17 and have since moved over to the M&P.
for me the comfort, accuracy and shootabiltiy of the M&P was way better then the glock - FOR ME.

personally i have yet to see either gun fail, either myself or from anyone i know personally.
at the end of the day you wont go wrong with either.

Glock ergonomics flat out suck (I have 2 now and have owned at least 5 over the years) my M&P which is 7+ years old has been flawless (over 50K rounds) and has better ergonomics. Pick the one you like best. If you pick the M&P, don't mess with the trigger.

There is no extra step in taking down an M&P. It is not necessary to lower the sear deactivation lever to take down the pistol, it is just a nice extra feature.

a 20$ APEX RAM will fix the reset very easily.
