My best group from shooting yesterday. 100 yards with Winchester 17gr varmit HV. Savage BTVS and Simmons 3-9x40 scope.

0.84"-0.17" = 0.67" group. Very happy with that.

I had one briefly, but for the cost of the ammunition, I would rather load my small caliber centerfires that are more accurate, and have far superior ballistics.

The cost works out to about the same... but you don't have to load the HMR... don't get me wrong, I love handloading... but I do it for 15 cartridges already... sometimes I just want to grab a brick of LR and another of HMR and go shooting... it has its place.

I love my .17HMR ,always a tack driver and fills my stable of .17s (.17 HM2 ,.17 Rem.Fireball ,.17 Hornet and .17 WSM)

The .17 HMR also fits nicely between my .204 Ruger ,.22 Hornet and .222 Rem.

Yes ,I love shooting everything and anything ,like a good gun nut should LOL

Very nice shooting BTW !!

Cheers

Enough with this thread...I'm busy talking myself OUT of an HMR. I've had 3, have none now....and feeling allot of temptation. Getting a chance to shoot gophers in AB is responsible. It's a fine gopher round. :)

4 shot groups (because that's what the mags hold) but this was only 45 yards or so.....whatever the Phoenix range is.

Needless to say, I like my 17HMR!

Nice shooting! Yes very fun gun to shoot love mine for grouse I find myself backing my truck up to shoot them now haha

Hmpppffff.

I have been trying to talk myself into one but just can't bring myself to pull the trigger on a buy. Not to slag your guns fellas - they obviously shoot like a house afire... but these .17 rimfires just seem to be the answer to problems I don't have.

Now - if the ammo was as cheap as it is for .22 long rifle...then maybe I would have to get the visa card out...

Just pick up another one already. You know you want to.

Since when is the 20 Vartarg a canon?

I am sure its louder then a hmr. When the hmr/22mag is the loudest gun you can use in an area blasting off 20+grains of powder is going to be pretty loud.

Then don't buy one...

Ammo cost more because it is more... do you not buy a .308 because the ammo cost more than .22 LR? The .308 fills a different niche and so does the HMR... it allows you to reach out well beyond reasonable LR range with accuracy... the 20 grain pills do a really fine job on foxes and jacks... and many love them in the gopher patch.
