I am sure its louder then a hmr. When the hmr/22mag is the loudest gun you can use in an area blasting off 20+grains of powder is going to be pretty loud.
I can't see them being that quiet...
17 HMR is still within most people's "no need for hearing protection" threshold. Add in the advantages of not being pushed around as much by wind and the extended reach - absolute top pick for recreational pest control!
I don't even bother bringing a .22 LR when shooting gophers.
Always wanted a SEMI AUTO 17hmr, but I couldn't think of a use for it between my 22lr and 223
~$15/50 rounds for Hornady Vmax.
Crappy Winchesters can be had for $10/50. But be prepared to deal with split casings.
