Hey guys, first off I'm not a rimfire guy at all. Im into hunting centrefire rifles and shotguns. That being said, I'm wanting to build my first Ruger 10/22 for a accurate hunting and plinking gun. I'm looking at maybe a bull barrel/ or sporter contour 12"-18" or so, a boyds rimfire hunter stock(if I go bull barrel) and maybe trigger kit. I'm looking for suggestions on barrels, trigger kits, other goodies etc, and of course where to buy all this stuff. This gun will mostly shoot bulk ammo for volume, but I will shoot premium ammo for hunting/target when real accuracy counts. Of course the big question is what kind of accuracy can be expected? Here's what I'm starting with: Bone stock camo 10/22 with a leupold vx2 1-4x20. On a optics note I may up this to a 3-9x40.....Thanks!

GM barrels or Dlask ones, i prefer Dlask because he's Canadian.

your on the right track with Boyd stock.

trigger - you can skin that cat in a bunch of different ways.
easiest way is to send your trigger to Brimstone Gunsmithing and have them do a tier 1 to it for $100 - that will do everything you could ever want, and cheaper then any other option.
from there your looking at going to a VQ or a Kidd add on trigger kit for $150.
after that your into replacing the whole deal with either a VQ or a Timney or a Kidd (250-380 IF you can find them)

here are a couple that are kinda what your talking about i think and what is on them, might help ya refine your search.

this is one i built for my dad, its a GM barrel on a boyd stock with all VQ internals.

Before swapping out any parts, barrels etc, read this post:

Shooting a few 10/22's I have not had a huge change in the accuracy I have been able to achieve (up to $1500 target builds)

ya that one is definatly my pride and joy.
i took it down to the local metal shop one day when i was doing some tinkering with it and needed to get some stuff custom made for it.
as me and the owner where going over stuff some guy walked into the store and just walked right up and picked up my gun and said he would buy it.
i told him it wasnt for sale.
then we went into a whole big argument about if my gun was for sale or not.
i was seriously getting worried i was gonna have to call the cops to get my gun out of the guys hands.
he finally let it go when i promised to give him detailed instructions on how to make his own.

but ya its a fun gun.
i would give a left nut to have had that gun back in the 80's when i was going out and shooting gophers every day after school.

If a heavy barrel is the direction you're goong that's cool. But for what it's worth I had a hogue heavy target barrel ( shot amazing btw) but it was too darned heavy to carry on hunting hikes. Sold it and now have pretty mi h the same setup you've pictured. Nice and light... An extended charging handle is nice and they can be picked up at Dlask....

I like that full stock set up. Looks really cool.

Just a heads up OP, my 10/22 doesn't function worth @#$% using cheap bulk .22LR. Yours might be like mine and only function reliably with high end .22 like CCI Mini Mag.

Another idea is buy a build 10/22 and skip all the fuss, Magnum Research or Dlask build are a cheaper option than buying a new 10/22 and swapping out everything.
Wanstalls or Dlask is my advise.

If you are going to pack it in the bush, remember, a pistol grip stock adds a couple inches to height. Also bull barrels can add up to 4 pounds to the weight.
10/22s are fun to modify but dont bolt on expensive parts unless you need them.
A bull barreled 10/22 could be 9+ pounds with scope and fancy laminated pistol grip stock.

Wow hey guys, sorry I've been busy and hadn't gotten back to the thread. Lots of very nice rigs here fellas along with very useful info to help me along. I don't mind a rifle in the 7-8lb mark- if it balances well. I have thought of just buying another rifle just for target shooting like a CZ, but I really like shooting my Ruger. I don't know if I can have the best of both worlds of being able to burn off cheap ammo at a beer can or loading up premium ammo for 1"ish?? groups at a 100 and have the gun cycle both types. Really guys, I am a newbie at this rimfire stuff so I don't know what can or cannot be done in terms of what I want this Ruger to do.
