NEA in 7.62x39 - The Guinea Pig thread :)

Lmt bolt update

LMT bolt worked just fine. I had to modify it a little since NEA firing pin is a bit fatter and sand of a little bit of metal of the other end of the bolt so the pin protrudes enough. NEA bolt just has a taller lugs, other than that dimensionally it's the same. I've had about 800 rounds torture test today with mixed Romanian and Russian surplus and all went fine. All this rifle needs it's a better bolt for sure. Other than that I love it. It's very accurate and I think it looks great. I am not that thrilled to say at least about NEA customer support at this point. Replacement extractor still has not arrived and my inquiry about broken bolt is still unanswered.

I would say that I am shocked, but I try to tell the truth whenever possible. I believe that SFRC is the warranty center for NEA.

If you're going to mix your LMT bolt and NEA barrel together I'd say you're on your own from here on out. I think you're going to have part of each lug on the LMT bolt unsupported by the barrel extension.

Different experience with my built 7.62x39
It loves norinco ammo and is really accurate with it, never tried corrosive

I'm running a DPMS bolt. I thought the NEA bolts were supposed to be enhanced, but it really doesn't seem much different than mine

We aren't the warranty centre, they do their own warranty work.

id64, pm me and I'll see if I can get a hold of NEA for you if you are having trouble contacting them.

NEA response update

Got a response from them yesterday:

We apologize for the inconvenience caused. We will send you a brand new improved 7.62 bolt assembly. This bolt is nickel plated and tougher than the previous version. Please send me the serial number of your rifle. We should have this sent to you next week.

Thanks for your patience

So, looks like it's a known issue and they have a better version of the bolt. It will be shipped next week so we can see how it looks like and how it performs.

Good to hear they have a 'new improved 7.62 bolt assembly' on the way to you.
I'm looking forward to how many rounds you can hammer out with this one. I hope it is a lot.

Nickel plating wont make the bolt stronger. My company has parts ENPed only for corrosion resistance. If the base metal is weak and poorly heat treated it will break, shiny nickel plating or not. So what "generation" is the new bolt?.

They have also mentioned over the phone that metal used with new bolts is "stronger". I have an impression that they do not manufacture those bolts themselves.

Afaik currently all of NEA's bolts (556, 7.62X39) are being Ni plated. It would seem that when you read NEA's response to id64, what you heard is, "they are nickel plated so they are stronger". If you'd put your bias down for just a moment I think you'd realize that what they said is its a new and improved bolt and this new and improved bolt is now nickel plated.

Are you aware of what confirmation bias is? If not, I'd suggest you look it up.

NEA 7.5 .223 bolt broke on me at 420 rounds , replaced with a newer bolt they offer, 300 rounds so far no issues. Will update. BTW this is the last time I buy anything made by them

That is probably a good thing. Their track record manufacturing bolts is pretty spotty.
