NEA in 7.62x39 - The Guinea Pig thread :)

Correct :) I am shooting only corrosive from my other AR for almost 2 years and have no issues with tube so far. Isn't it made from SS anyways?

If he's shooting surplus Romainian, then he's shooting corrosive.

Your camera work always makes everything look good but the finish on this rifle looks night and day compared to the earlier ones. It would be nice to see NEA overcome some of the negative rep with their AR's.

I've been a "guinea pig" since October.
I agree on the brake, it's concussive even to the shooter, I'm looking for a FH at the moment.

Looks great. Glad to hear it performed well. Great price you got too!
This is on my list as the 'next rifle'.

Is it possible to show a pic of the x39 bolt face?
I'm curious to see how thick the webs are on NEA's proprietary bolt, since that has traditionally been the problem area.
Example here in #27.

If you have a 5.56mm bolt to put beside it even better!:)

I don't have 5.56 bolt handy, but here are some 7.62 bolts. From left to right:

Nice comparison pics. It will be interesting to see how the NEA propriety bolt does. I hope it survives mucho rounds.
The Super Bolt looks it has the most beef to it.

IIRC, the XCR bolt looks to have even more sidewall beef than any of the above, but it is of a different design.

Thanks for those pics.:)

I hope you range day involves three cases of ammo!

Range report update

If you want to bring the worst in your gun get a NORINCO ammo :) I just got a case of non-corrosive 7.62 and start having a lot of issues with the rifle. But let me say first that heavy buffer while reducing felt recoil a little generates a lot of feeding and extraction problems with normal ammo. Back to stock buffer - and rifle runs flawlessly. Now, back to Norinco ammo.

1. Copper washed finish is very rough and not uniform. I was experiencing a lot of feeding problems with otherwise fine with other ammo (Romanian surplus) XCR mags. You probably already know about dimples issues with those mags and problem they generate. After removing dimples and lowering the front edge with Dremel feeding problems have gone. Moded mag feeds Norinco and even better lacquered ammo. I am going to mod the rest of my mags to make sure that rifle eats everything that I throw in it.

2. Stuck casing in the chamber. Norinco casing expands a lot. Combined with rough surface of the casing and generally dirty ammo in general in almost glues fired casing inside the chamber. I've had some FTE cases and the worst was completely stuck case that only budged with cleaning rod tapping. Luckily, extractor was undamaged.

3. Ammo is dirty. It's more dirtier than Romanian surplus. I would say 2-3 times. I've fired about 600 rounds of Romanian surplus at first time and receiver, bolt carrier and bolt were dirty, but nothing extraordinary. Today, after only 200 rounds of Norinco it was so filthy!

4. On the other hand, I've had no FTF with Norinco and 4 with Romanian surplus today.

In short, I would not recommend Norinco ammo to use with this rifle. I am sure that it will work well in SKS, AK and VZ.

I still don't have an accuracy report since I was dealing with those issues. But after quick zeroing at 50 and 100 I've managed to hit the metal plate at 300 a lot of times from standing with support and kneeling positions with Elcan Specter DR 1-4x.

More to come later :)

Broken extractor

It finally happened. Today extractor went kaput.... Email sent to NEA and Target Sport about warranty. Waiting for resolution.
