Hi everyone,

I'm thinking about getting another .223 Rem/5.56 Nato (I have a DDM4V5 right now) and was thinking about going with the RA XCR or (if I can find one) an unrestricted Bushmaster ACR. I was just wondering if anyone who's shot them both can give me a few of the pro's & con's/likes or dislikes as to either.

Thanks!

Welcome to the never ending question. Im in the same boat as you, I was leaning towards ACR but with the recent shot show and the obvious complete lack of interest from bushmaster in continuing the product Im now leaning towards XCR.

And we should cherish every single one. Not very many places in the world where a country's citizen's have the: time, money, freedom, to daydream about stuff like this. :) Now, get the OP to throw the Tavor in there, and we've got ourselves a thread!!
There are roughly 100 other threads on CGN regarding this same issue.

I think the Modern Hunter from ATRS needs to be added to all these threads now.
I'm seriously considering parting with my beloved XCR for a Modern Hunter. I'm watching quietly on the sidelines until guys start getting theirs.

The basic model Modern Hunter from ATRS is $1200 more than the basic model of XCR.
If MH does good and have no reliability issues and constant accuracy, then it might be worth the additional money.

I tried a forum search for one year old or newer with XCR & ACR as the keywords and keep getting an error message and when I tried searching posts I only got one return which was about a stock adapter.

Don't worry about it NE, we're just playing. The search function sucks.

The only way you can answer your question, is to buy both.

add:
The Modern Hunter can't be compared to an XCR L.

For what it is worth

I spent quite a bit of time with an older version of the xcr (non keymod) and it had a lot of issues. I have an ACR but I never shot it as a 223 before having it converted to 450, but what I can say is that it is far more accurate than the xcr in it's current caliber and I have not had problems like I experienced with the xcr. Canada post did manage to damage the finish on the ACR in shipping, but that is not bushmasters fault.

I am considering a new keymod light barrel in x39 but am waiting to hear some more reviews from people who have them after they put a case or two through them to see if all the previous issues are worked out. If not the money will go towards a x39 caliber conversion on the acr instead

I agree, my ACR has been flawless and they are known to be more accurate than any XCR if that's important to you. I've found as I get older that I am less satisfied just blasting away and making noise - I want to hit something.

If non-restricted is a priority and you don't mind giving up a small amount of accuracy, I'd get the Keymod heavy barrel. Yes, heavy barrel.

Apparently I'm the only one around here that heats up a barrel - that pencil barrel is going to get pretty toasty after a few mags. I've practically cooked off light profile barrels and they end up stringing shots a lot as they heat up. Caveat here is that I have experience with light barrels on the AR, not an XCR, but I can't see the diff.

They should make a modern hunter in 223. The acr can also be converted to non restricted with a linger barrel. Nutnfancy did andecent review of the xcr it didnt look overly accurate.
