32 and 38 MH were proprietary Merwin Hulbert calibers in the 1800s. These calibers are not on 'the list' so they should be allowed as antiques.

I have heard that they can shoot the later 32 and 38 special cartridges however they were not designed for this cartridge and it was not invented when these guns were designed. As I understand it, no 'adaptation' is likely required to shoot 32 special from a 32 MH revolver.

Does a 32 MH made before 1898 qualify for antique status? What about a 38 MH?

I checked on a .38 MH at one time, got a "NO", had to be registered. But I didn't press the issue, and was quite a while ago. I'm sure if they heard the .32 cal. word come up, they would be in a frenzy about that too. Post your findings if you check tho. They made some very nice smaller guns.

I saw a fellow at the calgary gun show last year with a .32 merwin and hulbert that was antique status, according to him anyway, didn't see any paperwork on it.

Still not 100% sure, just what I have seen so far.

It was a beautiful little revolver.

my understanding is if a 38 special can fit in it and be fired it will be a no go.

If your asking me, the owner said it was in .32 M&H after I asked him if that was the case. Only time I have ever seen one.

Trying to be a smart ass and got the caliber wrong. the metric equivalent of a caliber is not on the "not an antique list". I know thats pushing the interpretation of the regs, .32 = 7.65mm.

From my understanding M&H never made any 8mm they made CFs in 32 M&H 38 M&H and 44 CF there was a 44 Russian 44 M&H and a 44 40 winchester some of the spanish copys might have been offered in metric cals tho..
CFC used to give 38 M&Hs antique status but they have not for the last few years since the RCMP found a M&H add listing the 38 was chambered to shoot 38 M&H and 38S&W so that was the end of status on that gun by them i think the 32 was listed as shooting the 32 S&W to so that would kill the status on that one to.
But theres a few around with antique letters that were older done later than about 4 to 5 years ago.

Ive never seen anyone get a rcmp letter on a 32 M&H ever when i asked for one as i wanted a 7 shooter i had found for sale, they said no that 32 M&H was the same as the no 32s listed in there cal lists i assume 32 S&W.
M&H did sell there own ammo thats why they were thought to be diffrent chambers.
I have a sweet big M&H close top frame one in 44 Russian (it shoots 44 sp to) still has suction to. there well made guns. the fitting blew me away how everything fits .
