Rob, the bore is good enough to be able to shoot three 140 grain bullets with 35 grains of Varget into 1.5MOA from 24 all the way out to 200. Off my elbows in -25c!I don't see anthing wrong with tally marks...there might be better ways to do it though...but its the history of the rifle and if I was restoring it I would preserve them. I hope we can look forward to seeing photos of the restoration process.
By the way, whats the bore like?

This is a rifle that was handed down to me by my grandfather, chambered in 9.5x57. It has taken many of moose, a handful of bears. Just showing it off, but if anyone happens to have and reloading data for this cal, I'm very happy to listen!! The only data that came with it was using a power called "CR-17"....? It's definitely one of my favourite rifles.
