Ok I've recently started to lust for a vz 58 compact with the über short barrel. I used to see them listed everywhere! Where did they all go? Can't even find a used one. What the heck did I miss? While we are here.. Are they even any good or worth buying?

Yes they are AMAZING to shoot. I will probably never end up selling mine.

I believe from what North Sylva stated in am older thread is CSA is focusing on the non restricted VZ and some new stuff yet to hit our market.
These and the 11.8" are on the back burner for a bit.

If you see one in the EE, i suggest you grab it. High cool factor in this toy

I have the 11.8" in 7.62 and the 7.5" in 5.56 with AR mag adapter. Don't tell the 11.8" 7.62 BUT my 7.5" 5.56 is my favorite. Lol.
Honest to god and neither one of these are for sale and won't be but I've never had a jam or failure of any kind. Like bfiles said they are sooooo much fun.
Last time I had my 7.5" to range. A couple members showed up. My buddy and me stopped shooting and chatted with them. Once they were all set up we started shooting again. I took one shot with the 7.5". I knew it was going to be loud so after that first shot I looked over at the guys. One guy mouths "what the **** is that!" Lmao. It cracked me up hard.
If you want to try one and you're lucky enough to find one for sale buy it!!!
There was an 11.8" with some hard to find parts on the EE a few days ago.

I had one of the 11.8's in .223 way back when, it was an impulse buy and wasn't really fond of how it felt, then read many bad reviews so I left it unfired and traded it for a brand new 858. Which I still love! But with the skorpions coming out now I just need a little range toy. With dreams of a vz58 pistol in the horizon in 762 or lar mags in the 556 it makes the vz58 stand out more than the skorpion in my mind. A fellow pm'ed me last night with a lead on one so hopefully it pans out. (Thank you sir)

yup, its like have a cannon and flame thrower combo , lol .

if they stop making the compact then I can see the price moving up , just like the SKS-D did . at one time the "D" was selling for 25% over the Chinese standard SKS but when they stop importing them the price moved up to 300% higher .

heres my compacts .

Well my lead was a bust. Turned out to be an 11.8". So if anyone comes across a compact pm me. Also curious why all you guys are running breaks. Did these have gas issues from the short barrels?

Nope no gas issues. Without a flash suppressor the fire balls are huge!! Blinding even in daylight!! Oh yeah they're awesome!!!

I run my Dlask brake quite a bit on mine. Because it sends the noise and concussion down range.

That looks cool with the 60 rounder on it^^^^^

Thanks! It would make one helluva PDW with that mag if you could legally load it to full capacity. That one has a large wood screw drove through it and cut off on both ends to limit it to 5. Lol

I take mine off when a fudd is beside me , lol.

You're not the only one ;)

sorry to be off topic here but does anyone with a 7.5 know what size the gas port hole in the barrel is? it would be a smaller hole then an 18.5 barrel im guessing?

Grrr since I have been off all week recovering from surgery it has given me plenty of time to search high and low. I have found about 2 dozen .223 guns ranging from $880-$1225. All new and unfired but not a single 7.62. What are you guys takes on the lar mag adaptor? I seem to remember something about having to get the receivers milled on the older ones.

Just the older ones needed milling. Any new ones should take the mag adapter no problem. There's one on my 7.5" in the above pics I've posted. It's absolutely fine for a range toy. I think it's a lot tougher than people think. I've only run AR mags in my 7.5" Theyve all worked perfectly. It also gives you an AR mag release. Mags drop free and beowulf mag goodness accepted :)
It works with the 7.62 as well
