From what i have recently learned, some mags will cheat root problems in your gun.
Metalform, which are supplied and rebranded sti by sti, cheat the system a bit. They have the bullet jump the feedramp so to speak and have your bullet tip engage the feedramp a lot less. So yeah lots of effed feedramps are circumvented using metalforms.
I wanted to compete in single stack .40, and the only match quality mags in this caliber is tripp cobra.
I had one trojan feed well, and the other trojan, brand new from a dealer 3 weeks ago, gone out to a smith.
He couldnt believe how effed the feedramp was, so if you use a mag that actually uses the feedramp they wouldnt feed.
If you used a mag like metalform it jumps the feedramp and feeds well.
Most factory 1911s now are supplied with metalform, so you wont notice your feedramp is effed unless trying other mags.
So yeah, metalform make really nice 10 rounders with big removable basepads, available for not too much at brownells, in 9mm id only run these. Even dawson precision mags in 9mm use the metalforms i just typed about, with a sticker on the mag and their basepad.
