1911 mags?

Bought 6 Chip Mc 10 rounds, a while ago, and those are the only one i bring to the range for all my 1911, they are perfect and 10 rounds is more fun... JP.

From what i have recently learned, some mags will cheat root problems in your gun.
Metalform, which are supplied and rebranded sti by sti, cheat the system a bit. They have the bullet jump the feedramp so to speak and have your bullet tip engage the feedramp a lot less. So yeah lots of effed feedramps are circumvented using metalforms.

I wanted to compete in single stack .40, and the only match quality mags in this caliber is tripp cobra.
I had one trojan feed well, and the other trojan, brand new from a dealer 3 weeks ago, gone out to a smith.
He couldnt believe how effed the feedramp was, so if you use a mag that actually uses the feedramp they wouldnt feed.
If you used a mag like metalform it jumps the feedramp and feeds well.

Most factory 1911s now are supplied with metalform, so you wont notice your feedramp is effed unless trying other mags.
So yeah, metalform make really nice 10 rounders with big removable basepads, available for not too much at brownells, in 9mm id only run these. Even dawson precision mags in 9mm use the metalforms i just typed about, with a sticker on the mag and their basepad.

only 1911 mags i will by are chip mccormicks and Wilson.....sure others work, but these work every time, keep working and oh yeah, work some more.....i have chip mags that are closing on 20 years old and still work, though i have changed the springs out when they needed it.

I've heard several people say that 1911's chambered in 9mm can be very fussy about mags.

My SAM and STI 9mm pistols work with MecGar mags just fine, but I do find that they are a bit sloppy on bullet retention - drop a full mag onto the table and odds are it will spit a few out.

My STI came with what I think is a Metalform mag. Feeds just as well, and it retains rounds very firmly. Even with loading the one that I have you have to consciously insert the round and slide it back under the lips, rather than the MecGars which you just about press them into.

I've heard several people say that 1911's chambered in 9mm can be very fussy about mags.

I've used MeC-Gar, Metalform, Colt and a couple of old Pachmayr 9mm mags in my Kimber Stainless II Target 9mm and I can count on 3 fingers the number of malfunctions I have had after maybe 1500 rounds. I shoot a Lee 124 gr. cast RN bullet and chambering is nearly flawless. I suspect the vast majority of FTFs are bullet rather than mag related.

I ordered the Wilson combat from
Brownells.. Work great in two different 1911's
At least if you pay the extra for them you know the high quality should prevail.

Just took my Wilson Combats to the range. They're great! Fit and function perfectly. They were $92 U.S., to my door, for 3 from Brownells. Works out to about $39 Cdn each... not bad.

I put an order at Brownell's last week - total of $133.USD (2 x Wilson Combats, and 1 x Ed Brown Maxiwell). They quoted me $40 shipping using USPS.

What I don't like about Brownell's is that they don't provide an accurate shipping quote. The shipping cost will be provided when it gets shipped which doesn't make sense.

I asked them nicely to give me the price of the shipping before it ships so that I can make a decision to cancel it or not. I may do what you suggested to keep the cost down under $100.00.

Keep it under $100. for $10.95 shipping else it goes up considerably.
