Let's use some simple math to solve your dilemma.

.375 - .243 = .132

.243 +.132/2 =.309

The math and your requirement of flatter shooting to 400yds points you right at the 300Win mag, which just happens to be the most versatile and coolest hunting round of all time.:dancingbanana:

You're welcome.:d

The 270 WSM shoots a bit flatter and delivers a tad more energy beyond 400?

They are close on paper, here's the example I came up with...

270WSM shooting a Berger 150gr VLD hunting with a BC of .531 @3000 fps
vs
7mmRM shooting a Berger 168gr VLD hunting with a BC of .617 @3000 fps

Velocity and trajectory are dead even till 300 yds but the 7mmRM starts out with 350 more ft/lbs of energy. At 600 yds the 7mmRM is going 120 fps faster and still has 350+ ft/lbs more energy.
To match the energy of this 7mmRM load you would have to push that 150gr bullet in the 270WSM to almost 3300fps. The 270WSM I owned started to show pressure signs right at max book load which was 3000 fps with a 150 gr bullet 24" barrel. The 7mmRM mag I have now will push a 168 gr bullet comfortably with no signs of pressure at 3100fps 24" barrel, that's 2gr over book max and still no pressure signs(I haven't dared to find out where real max is.)
So in my experience the 7mmRM completely blew the doors clean off the 270WSM and left it whimpering and crying back into the pages of history never to be seen again.:p

LOL that's funny and clever....could be a strong possibility. Got a good chuckle from your post. Thanks....

Voted .280, but my actual vote for you since you know loading, is go .280 AI (you can even get Nosler brass ready to go, or ready to load).

Hey fellas, not much of an update at all. I've sold my 358 BLR to my brother inlaw, as he wanted it more than me. As for caliber I'm looking at the top choices of your votes, 6.5, 280/AI, 7mm mag, or 300. Haven't had much time to work on it, but when I find the gun I want I'll post it up here for you to see. Thanks again to all for your input!

Cheers....Scott

Ah that's ok. It's a good caliber, just to plain for me.....same goes for the 30-06 or .270. They all work well, just want something a little different...
If you want something a little different I suggest a 7mm wsm, or even more different, a 284 win. They might be scarce, but they do come up occasionally.
