If you were in the russian army in WW2 what weapon would you like to use?

you cant chose your rifle because you got what they give you ,

it would probably be the moisin nagant !

Cough, cough... MOSIN Nagant... cough... cough... ;)

And ya, it would probably be the Mosin Nagant... but that would be for regular troops.

The OP asked what YOU would choose... and I would choose the SVT-40 !!

You always hear that, don't you? In reality you only see German soldiers with Russian weapons for one simple reason. Lack of ammo. Does over-extended German supply line ring a bell? Two Fronts? Bombing raids? etc, etc, etc.

Germans picked up the SVT-40 for 2 reasons... 1) it was better than their over-complicated semi-auto and 2) 7.72x54r ammo would have been everywhere !!

I'm thinking that unless a certain weapon was rare, you could acquire it by whatever means easily enough.

I've heard that German soldiers on the Eastern Front would even resort to murder to get their hands on a MP44...

Speaking of the MP44, it came about in no small part as a counter to the close range effectiveness of the PPSh, as the German SMGs just weren't cutting it.

PPSh good firepower decent range 300m shots were not a problem. My uncle carried 91/30 from Lenino to Minsk. In Minsk he got PPSh and never went back to Mosin or anything German. He was heavily wounded at Pomeranian Wall defences but manage to rejoin his regiment for Battle of Berlin. One of the stories he always told was when they were send across the Vistula to help in Warsaw uprising his unit got really battered by German artillery he said that when he swam across the Vistula back to his regiment position the only thing he had with him was only his trusted PPSh otherwise he was totally necked

PPSh was simple, cheap and reliable, but I wouldn't say it was effective at 300m. Early PPSh had tangent sight up to 500m, then it was quickly changed to 100m/200m flip sight.

One 'o these little babies maybe?

Probably I would have been the guy who got nothing and was told too pick up the rifle of the dead man who dropped it.

But I like my SVT-40

Well since an SKS would'nt be an option then it would be a Nagant Sniper . reliable and a deadly round . I like to make sure all my shots count and go where I want them to go. and that 762x54r would ruin someones whole day . and a TT33 to go along with it and several mags .
