I go through about 1000- 3000 rounds per year depending on the caliber and .22 maybe 5000 rounds + a year. I believe in stocking up because it saves money in the long run.

Civilian ammo from the 50's and 60's is still 100% reliable. My dad had a pile of old CIL and Dominion 22lr, paper shotshells, and 30-30 from his father that were stored in a dry basement and still worked fine in the early 2000's. They were in the yellow boxes with blue markings. I kinda wish my dad hadn't shot them but to him it was just ammo. I think he still has some CIL SSG (00 buck I think) shotshells kicking around that he kept. He said he wont use them since he now knows they have some collectors value and I handload for him so he isn't short on ammo ever.

I regularly see younger guys at the range firing off old boxes of CIL, Imperial, Dominion, and IVI ammo that looks like it's from the 50's, 60's, and 70's. I don't know if it's inherited or from a gun show.

...but still I drove to the gun store in that hour window while waiting for my daughter to finish Sunday School. Disturbing really

Love that line.

Sort of in that line of thought, my daughter and I were heading to the range yesterday (Sunday) morning and passing tons of people heading into different churches on the way. She mentioned something about there not being too many people at the range and I said that was the advantage of not being religious... quite Sunday morning at the range !!!

LOL

I'm glad I'm not alone in this. My family thinks I've gone mad with the "stack it deep" philosophy that I have -- and I don't even have as much as some of the people in this thread!

Hell, I have ammo in a calibre I don't even have a firearm for, ha ha.
That's funny because I was seriously considering starting to buy ammo for guns I want in the future. It seems less crazy when other people are doing it too. ;)

I'm sitting on about 13,500 rounds total. I have 650 .40 S&W and 550 .45 ACP.

I don't even own a firearm in either of those calibres.

I think I may be a hoarder.

VV powders even has a disclaimer stating the performance of their powders start to diminish after 10 years of storage, even if kept in cool dry conditions, is accelerated when not ideally kept.
I am sure other manufacturers are similar.

I would sure like to see the grouping of 30yr old non sealed ammo vs new.

I have a trick myself and buddy do. He orders a case of ammo I pay for half and get it off him. Next time I order and give him half. Then our wives are none the wiser bc ammo only gets delivered every so often to my house and I say he owns half. It's brilliant until they start talking about ammo and catch up on our scam.

The wife is out of the country for a week.
Needless to say, I have two separate large ammo deliveries scheduled and a third delivery of a new gun....:dancingbanana:
