I only buy Norinco 5.56 that is marked on the wood crate…. I was told there is Norinco wood crates of .223 on the outside but on the white boxes inside it is regular 5.56 markings ?

Can anyone help with this ?

thanks

Norinco ammo is 5.56mm.

Or .223. IT'S THE SAME THING! :) Debate all you want, but it's identical for any real world applications.

Norinco ammo is 5.56x45mm. Regardless of what it says on the outside of the box. Lots of places label it .223 since not everyone knows that .223 = 5.56mm.

Flame suit on.

This holds true if your rifle is chambered in 5.56, I wouldn't run 5.56 through a firearm chambered in .223 due to the higher pressure generated by 5.56. But to each his own.

this is not a debate….. all I want to know is :

when the CRATE SAYS .223 ON THE OUTSIDE DOES IT SAY 5.56 ON THE INSIDE JUST LIKE ALL THE WOOD CRATES MARKED 5.56 ?

one store says I got .223 norc crates other says I got 5.56 norc crates…….

thx

Nope.

5.56 is loaded hotter than .223, and is not to be fired out of a .223 barrel.

To answer your question, all the Norinco crates are 5.56 spec ammo. They are military surplus.

I'm aware of what the 'experts' say. However - can you show one situation in Canada where 5.56 in a .223 chambered rifle has caused any kind of negative impact? DIRECTLY related to the different chamberings? In all my years on CGN, there has not been one example (to my knowledge) of anything untoward happening because of using 5.56 in a .223 rifle (or vise versa).

Yes, it COULD be hotter (not always) - but in this case, Norinco 5.56 is quite hot.

Extreme case but my buddies H&R Handi rifle with its spring loaded ejector always has trouble sticking case ...light tap of cleaning rod pops it free . I don't think its unsafe...just annoying. Never an issue with 223 and 223 pressure handloads . Just about every brand of 5.56 he has tried does the same thing

BTW ...just google Handi Rifle 5.56 stuck case and you will see its not an isolated incident

Lastly, leade dimension and free bore of chamber has impact on pressure ( google chamber dimension of SAAMI 223 vs NATO 5.56 ) .

I think what you are saying there are really no issues firing 5.56 in 223 chamber .

There is obviously pressure differences due to loading / chamber dimensions . Don't think there are real world ramifications.

You are correct - that's what I was trying to say. :) I know they technically aren't 'the same', but real world impact is pretty much zero as you noted.

The crates that I always saw had no markings on the outside to indicate what was inside. I have bought both the 1120 and the 1600 round crates and they were never marked on the outside. Sometimes the store would mark them, but they are all 5.56, some stores just consider them .223 and mark them as that.

Norinco is a government factory that produces military grade ammo for countries around the world, they don't have an extra production line .223, they have a separate production line at the printing plant Where they buy the boxes from.

Do not fire 5.56 in a .223 chamber. There are thousands and thousands of documented cases of people doing so and their rifles exploded. Only started happening when the Internet came along.

.223 in a 5.56 rifle = OK
5.56 in a .223 rifle = NO-GO !

I think most of the Norc stuff is 5.56 but I also think that the yellow boxes was really .223 so I think they made both but I can be wrong.

Personally, I fired a couple hundred of rounds of Norc 5.56 CJ95 without any problems.

Says you. I can say with almost 100% certainty that Norinco has never manufactured .223 spec ammo. Might be labelled that way - but it's 5.56mm.. ALL of it - yellow, white, spam can, loose - all of it. Thousands of Canadians have fired literally MILLIONS of rounds of Norinco 5.56 in .223 rifles with zero (ZEEERO) issues. And yet somehow people think guns are exploding and faces are coming off left and right.
