AI AICS Stock

Looking at purchasing an AI AICS (ver 1.5 fixed) on my Remington .338LM. Anyone running one? How do you find it? Any issues with it? I am not interested in the 2.0 (folder) unless you can explain the significant advantages it gives (other than reduce length and better cleaning rod access to the bore) the extra $$$ and weight don't seem to be worth it.

Thanks,

I've had quite a few chassis and prefer the AI's. There ergonomic and solid.

I agree, I had a AX chassis with a 338LM that I was having a hard time to find a load, Couldn't really get it to shoot better than 3" at 300yds. Started doing some digging around and was really surprised to see how little contact there was on the the rear tang and the v-block.

This picture shows how there was only a small contact point of each side of the rear tang.

And here you can see the small contact points on the v-block.

This was my solution.

After bedding the rear tang the rifle tighten up a lot. After doing another ladder test I shot 4 in about a inch but then I pulled the 5th shot (at 325yds).

Yes!!! I have talked to Tom Irwin at AI about this and it is in the works (they have already finished the programming for it) so its just a matter of time.

I sent an email to AI for more info/eta. An AT AICS 2.0 Tikka T3 would be best for me.

I don't know why it's on Euro Optics site for many months and not available yet.

Bets down on if they follow through? We all know how the savage stocks went.

"What's that?... You want a AICS for the savage? Why yes we have built prototypes that people love and now stopped for no good reason. Noooo we won't make anymore even though people are clawing to get their hands on them"

You know AI kinda pissesme off. They say they are going to build savage compatible stocks. Then make them, then sell them. Then say they are not continuing. Now they are saying they are making tikka ones???

WTF.

Seems like they will bow down to the Remington gods but leave everyone else behind. Which is hilarious, because let's face it. The tikkas deserve to be put into a fine stock like he AICS. I JUst don't get why they make it so hard for everyone else.

They might as well just say, hey were not making them. Until they actually ARE making them and about to fully release and sell them. So we don't sit here anticipating something that won't even happen lol

I've heard and I don't know if it is true, Euro Optics in the States sold a batch of AICS for the Tikka T3.

The only other option for a AICS for the Tikka T3 is the Roedale RCSII or making/fabricating your own.

Here's an email I received from Roedale a few days ago.

"We have neither in at the moment, we are back ordered due to being so busy with suppressors and the IWA.

Roedale

Maybe they got their hands slapped by AI lawers.

Guy, AI is busy. They are one shop that has 70 employees who fabricate rifles, that's it.

They Released a whole new line of rifles last year (AIAT and AXMC) and are working like mad to meet the production demands of these new rifles.

Once they catch up the AT and AX style AICS will get made and then, after all that you might see new versions.

My guess is it's gonna be a while.

I fully agree. But why bother releasing prototypes etc for sale and saying they will be released soon and then completely cancel everything. If they are busy, surely they would just focus on what is important and leave what isn't.

As for the number of employees etc. if they have such supply and demand then why are they not expanding? They must make a fair bit of cash from not only private sales, but government defence contracts also. 70 guys to make some of the finest rifle systems around? Seems crazy. If they WERE able to produce savage and tikka AICS, then the money they'd make off a years worth of sales would probably pay itself off for more employees.

I'm just saying it would be nice if they just didn't get people's hopes up for stuff and then say sod it we won't now. Just focus on something a be great at it like they always are :D

They could also sub the work to a quality CNC shop in Portsmouth, I mean those AICS are selling like hot cakes. I think they were close to bankruptcy a few years back, that might explain why they are careful at expending.

The demand is huge (especially in the states) but they are still just a small high end shop that supplies the world. Back when I bought my AI rifle it was a 6-8 month wait to have them build it (they were build to order with options selected by the customer). Things are starting to happen now that the new owner (Tom Irwin) is in charge. The following clip gives you a look inside their shop and where the company is headed.
