I called MNR and they told me if the mag is exempted from the law you can us it for hunting. Call the RCMP…waist of my breath and time. But the RCMP did tell say "the only mag restrictions are for waterfowl hunting in your shotgun". After that conversation my buddy and I were wondering if that means you can have more that 2 in a shotgun when you hunting other game.
I would say no...
"You must plug a semi-automatic or repeating shotgun so that it will not hold more than a total of three shells in the chamber and magazine combined." Pg 25 for the Ontario hunting reg.
but its early, maybe i missed something somewhere lol
ps- screw the LAR mag I'm getting a Beuwulf mag!
I've read through all these posts and wonder how many people Actually shoot coyotes?
I go coyote shooting out to the farm just about every weekend possible and its been many years since I've been able to fire off 4 rounds at once. After the first shot, every next round is a running shot.
I suppose it is hypothetically possible to need 10 rounds for shooting dogs, but I have serious doubts. I don't use 5 rounds in a day, and in fact I prefer the low profile of the 5 round mag.
If that 10 rnd. LAR pistol mag is going into any kind of AR, no. No hunting with restricted firearms. Ontario's MNR follows the FA for firearm rules.
In southern Ontario, the only restriction is NOT in ALL of Southern Ontario. Isn't .275 max everywhere either. Some municipalities near TO(Durham Region is one, I think. It's in their by-laws.) say .270 max. By cartridge name. You have to check local by-laws too.
Holy sweet jesus how the hell is this thread still going?
I can take my Lee Enfield 303 Brit with its ten round magazine out and hunt coyotes all I want. End of thread. There is NOTHING in the Ontario hunting regulations that restricts rifles beyond what we are allowed to possess federally.
You may want to go back and read that again. Anything over. 270 south of orangeville(hwy 9) is nit allowed. And yes it is in the hunting regulations. As has been posted.
The mag capacity for centre fire rifles is federaly controlled though so using a pistol mag is perfectly fine.
Thats a calibre restriction. Not a magazine restriction. Lee Enfield 303 was simply the example I chose because its a rather obvious one that most of us are familiar with. It proves the point that 10 round magazines are legal to hunt with. Calibre restrictions would obviously limit its use in southern ON, but thats not what the thread is about
the enfield is also a bolt action and has no restrictions on mag capacity but semi autos do.
