magnetospeed sporter

If you actually read the Q&A on their site, the question is answered in there;

The MagnetoSpeed can be used with various muzzle brakes and flash suppressors provided that the muzzle gasses are not diverted directly into the V-block, muzzle strap, or blast beam (arched portion). That being said, the blast beam was designed to handle the muzzle-blasts of most common shoulder-fire rifles, shotguns, and handguns. If your muzzle brake or flash hider is long you may consider the V2 model which has an extra inch of clearance for these devices. Our 1:1 scale print outs are a good way for you to be able to print out a scale outline and hold it up to your firearm to see if it will work.

Yeah I read that before but the .338lm is not your common caliber IMO, but it could work. I probably trust it up to 300 win though.

Good question, nope it was at 50y (I knew the POI was going to move). I did other tests with my tikkas (30-06 & .223) instead of a winchester mod 70 2 days ago and it was less than 3-4inches up...no errors, flawless once again!

Hang on - an 18" (1.5 foot) shift in POI at 50 yards with the Win mod 70, but only a 3"-4" POI shift at 50 yards with the other two rifles? That seems a bit of an extreme difference. I'm wondering if you meant 1.5 inches instead of 1.5 feet?

Not trying to be annoying here, just trying to get a feel for the rough difference that the bayonet would make - 3 feet at 100 yards will mean I'd likely have to use way bigger targets (for the first few shots to get on paper, anyway...).

The downside to the MagnetoSpeed is the POI change and reshooting, and barrel vibrations will govern the best group size. At Accurateshooter.com I have read that the POI can shift to near nothing to over a foot.

So my question is after getting your MagnetoSpeed readings did you need to adjust the load to improve your group size?

Just did load testing with MS on, found very good load. Took MS off and not only POI changed but group size went from .4s to .8 MOA which was all vertical. I had to up the charge a little to get accuracy back, then I ran out of components so I have to retest to be sure. BTW barrel is heavy contour with 0.8" muzzle diameter.

This is what the majority of what MagnetoSpeed owners have to say, and at one time I thought about buying one. I will keep doing it the old fashion way and let my targets do the talking.
I still think its a neat idea for a chronograph "BUT" as long as you are adding weight to the barrel you are going to change the way the barrel vibrates.

I just measured the first bullet hole on the target sheet that I had kept from the range and... 10 inches up instead of the "1 1/2 feet". It was way much more in my mind. Sorry for my bad estimation.

All good; thanks muchly for the clarification! Sounds like I'll still likely need bigger paper...

If only the Labradar wasn't going to be something like $900 by the time it gets to the door...

I shoot for group size first, once I'm happy with how a particular load shoots I attach the magnetospeed to get the exact MV of that load to make my dope cards. I have found POI change with it attached depends alot on the rifle it is on and is usually a vertical impact difference only.

Magnetospeed attached to rifle, 10 rounds, 1.5 inches high (but still center) at 100m.
