Where/How to Buy/Import a Mossberg Mariner 14" Compact (with stock not AOW)

Yes, true. The Turkish guns are slowly becoming more prevalent and accessories are trickling in. Hatsan being at the forefront.
I have a shorter replacement stock on my 14" Hatsan compact. OAL is 31"

How different are the receivers from a rem 870 as far as the stock fit?
I can see a market for BadBoy if they are close enough to make a sling plate 870/Hatsan adapter.

No too different from 870. I saw someone mod an ATI 870 stock to fit. Material removal and altering was needed.
S&J hardware was successful in creating a sling attachment adaptor for Fabarm shotguns to accept 870 stocks. I bugged Simon about creating one for Hatsan but haven't heard a positive answer on it from him.

You guys have seen the marinecote electroless nickel gone on parts of the mariners? Was the steel rusting in those areas? Were they quite old shotguns or somewhat recent (the marinecoat has changed over the years). I was under the impression that many US forces were using the Mossberg Mariners partly because the finish is nearly indestructible.

A few days ago I enquired about http://www.wanstallsonline.com/optima-marine-guard-12-gauge-optmrn1220s.html which I suppose it the gun you are talking about. The guy at the shop said for defence he wouldnt recommend it, to take a Mossberg mariner instead. http://thathuntingstore.ca/ sells it for 289.99$ and its barrel is made of nickel-chromium-molybdenum steel, Aircraft alloy receiver.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/45307044@N02/12576144135/ mossberg marinecote = teflon + nickel formula

I tried to find more info on the Scorpio PA01 Pump Tactical Shotgun 12GA 12.5" Brl Nickel. For example are the internal parts protected as well, etc. I had no luck. Do they even have a real website or just http://www.scorpiofirearms.com/

Should I thrust a Hatsan Optima or a Scorpio with my life against a charging Grizzly? :runaway: I need a reliable gun that will not rust in daily rain and with zero maintenance. "murdoc" if you're reading feel free to comment as well

Sorry to burst your bubble, your " barrel is made of nickel-chromium-molybdenum steel, Aircraft alloy receiver. " is just fancy pants words for standard 4140 or 4350 HTSR steel that everybody uses in the gun biz, same for aircraft alloy, aluminum from 2030 to 7075 is is used on aircraft.
what you should be looking at is the finish, type 3 class 2 anodizing on the alum is 20x as hard as the metal.
the marine kote is just electroless nickel, its really good is wet and salty areas but other then that, nitride or epoxy ceriamic resin for a finish is one of the best aka cerakote

You mean mostly for compactness (to carry around) or mostly to reduce recoil? I'm fairly tall, I didnt think going under 13.5-14" would be a good fit

Yes for compactness but also for fast drawing and shouldering in sudden situations. Small LoP isn't just for shorter guys.

Be careful, you could be like me and buy the 12" Hogue and be uncomfortable and cramped while shooting. I believe the OEM stock was around 14.5" length of pull and the Choate I put on with no spacers was about 13.5" which feels perfect. I'm 5'10", if you are tall with long arms you may like the long LOP.

Yes, 12" is quite short. But its not a common length for aftermarket stocks. You see them listed as youth stocks actually. The Magpul SGA is 12.5" with no spacers. I seldom see them used without spacers.
My Urbino stock is 12" but the pitch/angle makes it very comfortable.
I'm 6'1 and can deal with most any LoP. But I tend to go shorter LoP, 13.5"-12" mainly.

Bear Country can you tell us more about your experience with shotguns?
Have you shot Mossbergs and 870's?
What exactly are you looking for beyond compact and marine weather resistant?
Do you plan on just leaving this gun on a boat or carrying it around while you work or play? Anything else you can share about your situation.

Regardless of needs, he wouldn't be the first one if he just wanted the Mariner for 'looks' and/or it's rarity in a 14" barreled version.

I'm just curious, it feels like a coastal bear gun thing but maybe I'm reading it differently then you ST.....
I figure there is no harm in asking the person straight up to clarify things a bit.

I'm not gonna join ISIS no matter how many hot babes you promess lol

A better question would be why wouldnt you want a marine shotgun.. Lowest maintenance of them all :)

Not planning to hunt bears (or anything else in fact) with this shotgun - just for fun as st1264 puts it and for defense if absolutely necessary. Possibly also for the entertainment of trying to be ok accurate once in a while with shots and slugs. I like backpacking, camping, sea kayaking, sailing etc and really dont like maintenance so reliable marine compact make sense.

I've read of many people complain about wear and scratches over the long run on their parkerized finish (like the one on 590A1's) but havent found so much against the finish of brand names marines.

My marinecote 500 finish is very rust resistant, and also very scratch/wear resistant. More so than I have heard of parkerized finishes where it seems the finish quickly wears off any points of contact.

Fun and low maintenance are good goals and just because you like it is fine by me as well......:)

Cerakote is pretty resistant to salt water environments if you choose to believe their testing and for around $300 you can have any gun you like cerakoted.
It might open up more choices for you then a specific marine model that may or may not be easy to source.
Another durable finish would be hard chrome..... not sure what that would cost you but you could call these guys.....

Obviously this is a video produced by cerakote so it needs to be taken with a grain of salt... :)
Too bad they didn't put some hard chromed steel in the tank but you can see that stainless steel is not rust proof.
