Hello,
I was out shooting my new np 29 and lo and behold 6 rounds in the fun jams. I drop the mag and rack it but can't budge it at all! Tried a light tap with a dowel. There isn't a squib and nothing has worked! I oiled it and have let it sit but so far I've got nothing.

Slide back enough to get the slide stop out and tap on the back ( forward to have the slide and frame ) separate? So inspect it better. Almost sounds like there is burrs. Or the guide rod magically twisted.

Use small sharp object like screw driver to pry the claw of the extractor from the rim of the case and then move slide off the case. Then remove the slide stop and disassemble the gun. Once you have the barrel out, put it on hard surface and tap lightly until you get round out. Clean, lube and reassemble the gun. Gun is too fresh to function properly, plus its Norinco, it needs some break in with files and sand paper to get all sharp edges out.

I tried this at the range and the extractor isn't engaged on the case rim. The slide is seemingly unwilling to move, the case is pressed into the barrel slightly.

Only other method is not being so gentle. Dowel down the barrel and really give it. Or put the slide down against a sharp corner and pretty much force it down.

Try pressing the front edge of your rear sight against a ledge and forcing the slide back that way.

If its that jammed then prolly tear the sight. Be Much easier on a edge of a desk/table between the barrel bushing and front sight and push down with all your might with the firing pin removed which is 2 seconds..

I've attempted the slide on a ledge option, to no avail! I'm thinking perhaps a part inside had a catastrophic failure. I've tried prying the extractor, ledge, light taps with a mallet, pulling the barrel forwards. I'm confused as to how this is caused

Did you really push down hard? Like one hand on and other hand give it. Or Like ram the gun down?

Only thing I can think of is unlikely but the guide rod is fetched up or twisted or something up with the barrel link.

Can you get the slide stop out or too far forward to line up?

OP, is it only the casing that is stuck? Was the primer struck and the projectile fired down the barrel? Does the extractor still have a hold of the rim? What brand of ammo? Another member on this forum recently had a similar problem. The Winchester 9mm round didn't have a flash hole so when the primer popped it rammed the round into the barrel.

It is the slide that is stuck, the extractor is cleared from the case. The case floats freely now after I pried it out, primer is intact and struck. Projectile is not in barrel.
Everything seems normal minus the slide being stuck in place! It's so unusual, I've tried most tricks in the book to no avail.
Ammo was Winchester white box 147gr
