Who cares?
How many people do you think buy these, to sit at the range? I'll hazard a guess of less than 10%.
90%, that's who cares.
And where do you have proof it's only 10% Sherlock

Are you really trying to argue the merits of restricted vs non? It's a losing proposition. The 'restricted' word itself speaks volumes about it. Thanks, but no thanks. AR platform was the only game in town for a while, but now that similar firearms with non-restricted status are available (for a premium) it's the easiest choice any gun owner can make.

Small production: Do we have actual production output numbers from FAMAE? Vs SAN production output numbers?
Higher quality than most: An SG540 & SG542 sells for $2,999 @ SFRC (the mandatory "regular price") and sells for $2,699 @ Tactical Imports.
What are the comparable firearms at that price point?
KACs SR-15e3
LMTs CQB MRP, Defender
Armalite Super SASS (on sale mind you)
What is higher or of equal quality than those?
The way I see it is that they are that price because they are NR and very low production numbers, but would like actual facts to prove otherwise.
Actually we sell them for $2649.
If you guys could make a thread with the tweaks ya'all did to those 540's to accurize them, I (and many others I'm sure) would be grateful. I have a 542 that shows real potential, but seems to like throwing a flyer out of what would otherwise be great groups. I hope your tricks on the 540 can be used on the 542 as well.
If you want to get technical the original 540 series was made in france because of swiss export regulations.
Comparing that to a newer 550 is not a fair comparison, not sure why that even has come up. The non Famae 540 I had the opportunity to play with was in Germany and it is of higher quality than the Famae I recently handled IMO
The build quality is actually quite close to that of the Swiss Arms rifles. The finish isn't nearly as pretty, but they're built exceptionally well. I'd trust a 540/542 over an XCR any day.
Sorry, but but the FAMEA built quality is no where close to a SIG/SAN rifle. In nearly every measure of quality it falls far short. The only really comparable component is the barrel. Tolerances and part to part variances are lacking. If you examine 3-4 FAMEA's side by side, you quickly find that the front sight block may be tight on one rifle and loose on others, strait on 2 and crooked on others. Same goes for upper to lower fit, etc. I liken the FAMEA compared to the SAN as Soviet era verses East German produced AK's. Both are functional, but the german produced rifles were a step above the Soviet ones in every point.

If you've had a different experience, I'd like to hear it in more detail, but I'm basing my opinion on what I've seen.
no, the 550 is a step above the original 540 in quality but the Famae is like a cheap copy of the original 540 in terms of quality from what I have seen.Germany never made a 540 variant to the best of my knowledge, so I assumed you were referring to the currently produced German Sig Sauer 550 Sport rifles. The Sig 540 design was licensed to several companies including Manurhin in France and FAMAE in Chile, but none in Germany licensed the rifle AFAIK. I have no doubt that you handled one in Germany, but that doesn't mean it's a German made rifle...
Time permitting, I should be able to put together a photo based PDF in the coming weeks.
Looking forward to it when you can![]()
The 2 biggest quick performance enhancements... #1 tighten the front gas block to barrel fit (don't use a center punch to dimple the barrel, rather use the socket method to lightly flatten the barrel splines using very light taps of a small hammer. Test fit after each light tap. There should be zero lateral movement in the gas block but it shouldn't be so tight you need a hammer to get it on or off. #2 ditch the gas block mounted bipod. The Swiss military found as much as a 20cm change in POI when testing the SG54X at 300 meters. There are a number of other tunes, but these are quick and general have the greatest result.
