22 Ammo shortage, specifically CCI shortage~vendors...what have you been told?

Hey guys~the other ammo shortage thread seems to focus on what the asking prices are of ammo when people find it, and, who has what in stock. That's cool, but, I'm VERY curious to know what retailers/vendors/distributors are being told by CCI as the stuff has basically dried-up in Canada during the last year. I've emailed CCI numerous times, and get the same...bottled response every time. In a nutshell, they're saying orders are being filled in the sequence they were received. But, I've been working in manufacturing myself for 25 years and that excuse has a shelf life. Eventually, when demand is high, manufacturers make decisions about who gets what, and when, and in what order...and smaller customers can end-up getting the short end of the stick. Smaller customers...as in...Canada. Clearly, some stooge in customer service answering emails from a dummy like me isn't able to tell me more than that...I get it...but what about the big distributors/retailers in Canada? What are they (are you?) being told by CCI? Since it's the ammo (and primers) I used most, I'm almost taking this personally now. I had plans to buy a new 22 shortly but am now considering selling one instead. How can the shortage of good 22 ammo NOT be affecting sales of guns? If CCI is cranking-out as much ammo as their promotional material says they are, who's getting it all?

I was at Lebaron in Markham on Saturday picking up some 9mm.

Asked the lady behind the counter about CCI. She said they have had an order in since early last year and have no idea when it will come in. One of the guys on the floor said he knows for a fact some has come in, but it was all sent to their Montreal store.

That's just nuts..unless the individual stores get to order their own

For the most part comments here are unrelated to the op. Nice to see folks I'm comprehension levels running so high.

there is plenty of evidence to pointing to the US feds buying ammo and storing it. It's no secret the dems want to enforce gun control. Right now they can't so they buy up ammo and keep it off the streets. It's a silly game expensive game but when you print money you can play it. The ammo makers are making tones of ammo at record pace. Where is it all going! It is going somewhere. And it's not all hitting the store shelves neither here in Canada nor in the US. don't believe this? Many don't but then again many don't believe a lot of what's true and only believe what they want to.

If you're going to mock others reading comprehension levels, you may want to make sure you proof read what you post for grammer, sentence structure, and make sure it makes sense.

so you are saying that there is a federal government conspiracy resulting in them contracting thousands upon thousands of people to go into retail stores to buy all the rimfire ammo they find (and then somehow store it)? or that there is communication between the federal government and ammo manufacturers to buy mass quantities of ammo directly from them? that they have spent tens (if not hundreds) of millions of dollars with a republican led senate and they have not noticed a discrepancy in the budget? that all this ammo is stored in a great number of undisclosed government warehouses throughout the country? or maybe one huge warehouse (perhaps area 51) where ammo from the entire country goes? and all of this without a single point of failure when there is a HUGE portion of the US populace which believes and looks for conspiracies just like this?

.... or that americans stockpile ammo like you wouldnt believe and it isnt uncommon for individuals to have tens of thousands of rounds "just in case". hell, its rimfire. i can go through a few hundred rounds in an afternoon with ease.

^I find this nearly impossible to believe. I've never heard/read anything about this even being a possibility...let alone, there being any evidence to support it. CCI's site claims that the majority of their market is commercial. I am genuinely puzzled by the shortage as it is though. If ammo was hitting the shelves then being swept-up by eager hoarders...that's one thing. The fact that it's barely trickling into stores or distributors in North America...that I don't get. While the government conspiracy seems VERY far-fetched to me...I can't help but feel there is some pc. of the puzzle missing here. It would be interesting to be a "fly on the wall" in the CCI head office...being the one who decides who gets the reported "4-million-rounds-a-day". I have to wonder if that much CCI 22 ammo has come to Canada in the last year.

I have been finding lots of cci ammo at the home hardwares as of late.
Seems to be coming back in, but I think prices are going to stay where they are.

If that was the case of CCI sending large qtys to the Government you would think Freddy in shipping would spill the beans..

I do know for fact that new cars are destroyed and not sold that sit on factory lots.
Theyd rather take the loss than sell them and lower the over all cost of the cars.
My guess is like china had, there is warehouses full of ammo. Just sitting so that the price can still remain high.
Flood the market, price will drop. They dont want that!
Us Canadian bought Norinco mill ammo. Palets and palets.
Cost dropped. Was .25 cents a round. Now that supply has dried up, its up to .40 cents.

china.... so the US government not only does all the stuff which sounds stupid but they also pay to ship to to china? this is making even more sense now.

and have any of you guys been at a rimfire feeding frenzy? in the US they KNOW when shipments get in. they are waiting in line for the instant that they are able to sell the stock. within 20 mins its gone. i was in a vegas walmart last last year stocking up on pre-drink material on my first day there. i was planning on going to the county shooting range and renting a gun to have some fun with (GREAT facility with amazing people ht tp://w ww.clarkcountynv.gov/shootingcomplex). i went to see about buying some ammo from cheaper at walmart instead of the range. the guy at the sporting counter told me that they would have some in 2 days at 8am. he warned me to get there early. i was there at about 7:50am and there was a line of a couple dozen people. every single one of them bought the maximum of each type they were allowed. didnt make it to person number 20 before it was all gone. i am talking about at least 30k rounds gone in under 20 mins from one walmart on just one shipment.

You guys can mock me all you want, tin foil hats conspiracy theories and whatever, most of you have never left Canada, and don't really know what goes on in the real world. clueless to be sure.

As for the grammar correction if English was my first language, I'd worry about it, since its not, not a big deal

Back to the 22 ammo shortage. Folks the plants are running full out, full steam ahead, and making more ammo than they have ever made in the past, yet their is less on the shelves than anytime in recent history. This goes for all the main calibre's, 22, 308, 9mm, 223. Tell me what caliber have the most murders in the U.S. been committed with? if you say 22 you are right. If you don't think this admin wants to ban guns, you are not paying attention. Since they cannot ban guns what is the next best way to restrict or reduce crimes committed with 22 shells? I know its ridiculous, but most politicians are ridiculous. Many believe if you restrict the sale of ammo you will reduce crime, this is the thinking. so what happens, they work to take 22 shells of the streets.

There are 5 that I know of, of huge warehouses, full of recent production ammo, full, these warehouses are huge. who owns them? who's ammo is it? if you really think through the logic of this, its not logical, as the ammo makers will just make more and the buyer of that stored ammo will have spent zillions for nothing. Its not logical to buy the ammo to get it off the street, but then negotiating a deal that gives Iran nukes is not logical either. The admin in the U.S. is not logical. This is not conspiracy theory folks its what's happening, you don't have to believe it at all. Facts are facts what you make of them is your business.

The facts are there is an ammo shortage for the average consumer
The facts are the ammo makers are full out making more ammo than ever before.

Its up to you to do the math and try and figure out why that ammo is not hitting the store shelves. I have given you one explanation, that makes sense to me, because I know a trustworthy person who has something to do with one of the warehouses. They are trustworthy to me and that's good enough for me to believe them. You don't have to, I don't care. The op asked so I am simply sharing what I know to be true. you can shoot the messenger, it doesn't change the facts.

- thats some mighty fine investigative journalism. its amazing how you know of these 5 warehouses but they have never been on the news (and i am including fox news in this)? so it is kept under wraps enough that a new station which intentionally targets the current PotUS doesnt even know about it (or doesnt report it), but you know about it?... and you post it on a public forum? i dont see any logic in that.
- .22's are responsible for the most murders? WHAT?! i can see a .22 rifle with a VERY carefully aimed shot doing a lot of damage. however, the VAST VAST VAST VAST majority of gun crimes in the US are committed by handguns so there goes that idea out the window. so you have .22 pistols? is anyone else laughing? the majority of firearm crimes are from center-fire handgun rounds. so 9mm, .380, .40, and .45. this ammo is for the most part inexpensive and with a few exceptions easily purchasable. 9mm and .45 are also very common surplus rounds making them even easier to find. saying that .22LR rounds are responsible for the most murder is true only if you are counting small animals as people (are you a member of PETA?) for someone who posts about logic your post is devoid of it.
- lkajsdlkasjdlkasjda selling nukes to iran??! what are you smoking? (my guess is fox news.) not to turn this thread into a political argument but all talks related to irans nuclear program revolve around the US trying to remove the ability for iran to refine nuclear material into a weapons grade product. one such suggestion is for iran to dismantle their enrichment facilities and the US would provide them with material suitable for power generation only (which is what iran says is all they are after). this would be a benefit for both parties because iran would lose the ability to refine fissionable material and the US would be able to sell of some of its MASSIVE stockpile uranium used for power generation. let me make this as clear as possible... YOU CAN NOT MAKE A NUCLEAR BOMB FROM POWER GRADE FISSIONABLE MATERIAL. not even close. the difference in the technology needed to further refine that to weapons grade is what would be heavily regulated under the agreement. if you think that they might create a "dirty bomb" (likely not even knowing what that is) with the material provided to them that is equally ignorant. iran already has the ability to create ineffecient radioactive weapons and they have used them before. what? they havent? my bad.

Hey dizzy~I don't think I know a single adult male who hasn't been outside of Canada at least once, so I'm not sure what you're suggesting there. I also don't know how questioning (what definitely sounds like) such an outlandish explanation for the ammo shortage...makes someone "clueless." If what you're suggesting is true, I'd be very curious to know why this is the first I've heard of it. I'd also be curious...

1. Winchester bulk and some Remington has flowed...almost uninterrupted...while most others have disappeared? Is CCI/Federal that much more dangerous in the eyes of the Government?
2. Does this massive government "buy" have an expiry date? Doesn't seem possible to buy it all, store it all, indefinitely
3. What government (even the one in place down there) would want to suffer the political ramifications if this was "found out?" Seems secrecy would be an even higher priority if that were the case.
4. Buying so much ammo to curb gun violence would be like buying all the alcohol to try and stop drunk driving. Doesn't seam feasible/likely...even for those clowns in charge.
5. Why hasn't shotgun ammo been harder to get? What about reloading components? Granted...powder has been hard to find..

I sure don't have an explanation of course...guess I thought (wrongly) that people who import/distribute/sell CCI in Canada might have some insight. Guess they don't, or, don't care to comment. Checking on CCI's site, it's funny to see (in this climate) an announcement about the new A17 ammo. I think the newest 22 is the "Suppressor" stuff. Leaves me wondering "why bother?" They can't meet the demand as it is, why add to the number of SKUs?

yea in general bulk ammo is still making its rounds. its the medium grade things that we have issue getting. although, it could be because criminals are discerning firearm owners. they only use the middle of the road stuff in their precious .22's. after all, match grade is far too expensive (even if you make the case for careful shot placement from the deadly .22LR round). bulk stuff.... they are criminals after all, not barbarians.

It's like the price of gas, you get used to paying the high prices so there is no reason to lower the price even if there is no high demand or shortage. All for higher profit in the long run. Who do you really think are the suckers???

im pretty sure we are all in agreement that manufacturers like the higher prices. after all, if you can make the same product for the same cost, sell it for twice as much, you are making even more money despite the fact that you may sell half the amount. what we were disagreeing with is the nationwide US government conspiracy resulting in the US buying all the rimfire ammo.

because i know someone is not going to understand the math behind what i said above....
- if it costs $0.03 to make a round which is sold for $0.05 you are making $0.02 profit/round. if you sell 200 rounds this is a $4 profit.
- if it costs $0.03 to make a round which you sell for $0.10 you are making $0.07 profit/round. if you sell half the amount, 100 rounds, there is still a $7 profit.

thats the area we are getting to with rimfire ammo.
disclaimer: numbers are pulled out of thin air but demonstrate the math perfectly.
