Why not just file 2 tenths of an inch off the front post?
2/10"? I don't have that on my tape measure. I would like to trim mime as well. I'm about 18 clicks from bottom at 100 yards. Is there an actual proper height of the front blade for the shorty?
No, no Canadian vendor that I know of. You can phone Springfield Arms, order the Bush rifle front sight.
About $50. They ship to Canada. You have to phone...it isn't on their website. This is what you're looking for:

So,your 305 'shorty' has a blade which is too high! Not an uncommon problem with those rifles, and I presume it is new with unaltered front sight. The sight is a direct copy of the Garand and can be corrected in the same manner. There is a formula, based on setting your rear sight about 10 or so clicks from the bottom (allows for ammo which may shoot a bit high after this correction). Works, too. Tools required: allen key to take the sight off, calipers for accurate measurements, metal file, bluing and masking tape. Look up 'FULTON ARMORY', Targeting the M1, M14 & M16 Service Rifle by Steward Leach for the formula. I too, have a lot of reservations about internet experts, so one needs to separate the BS from the real deal and have knowledge themselves.
the blade is not to high, the protective ears are to low, the blade sticks up above the ears. A decent tig Welder can make the ears higher.
Not necessarily... Some of the 18.5" rifles came with the standard 22" sights. Mine did.
was there any problems with zeroing due to lack of elev adjustmen in the rear sights with the standard front sight? Couple guys at my club have them and hate that they are sooooo wide.
