Is there a Canadian source for front sights with proper blade and base height for short barreled M305s? I have my rear cranked up to 800m just to get the bullets hitting where I want at 50m...

2/10"? I don't have that on my tape measure. I would like to trim mime as well. I'm about 18 clicks from bottom at 100 yards. Is there an actual proper height of the front blade for the shorty?

Yes the height of the blade has a defined height... and I cannot find it in my notes... I cannot find how many clicks of elevation should be "0" or the yardage they should be... all kings of notes are missing, I think I had my note book plucked.

So,your 305 'shorty' has a blade which is too high! Not an uncommon problem with those rifles, and I presume it is new with unaltered front sight. The sight is a direct copy of the Garand and can be corrected in the same manner. There is a formula, based on setting your rear sight about 10 or so clicks from the bottom (allows for ammo which may shoot a bit high after this correction). Works, too. Tools required: allen key to take the sight off, calipers for accurate measurements, metal file, bluing and masking tape. Look up 'FULTON ARMORY', Targeting the M1, M14 & M16 Service Rifle by Steward Leach for the formula. I too, have a lot of reservations about internet experts, so one needs to separate the BS from the real deal and have knowledge themselves.

the blade is not to high, the protective ears are to low, the blade sticks up above the ears. A decent tig Welder can make the ears higher.

Not necessarily... Some of the 18.5" rifles came with the standard 22" sights. Mine did.

was there any problems with zeroing due to lack of elev adjustmen in the rear sights with the standard front sight? Couple guys at my club have them and hate that they are sooooo wide.

if they can, they want to put some m1a nat'l match front sights on.

I just ordered the sight instead of wasting my time filing and figuring things out. If I had a backyard range maybe it wouldn't be such a pain but I dont...

Correct, there wasn't enough adjustment available to zero it. Yes, the standard front sight looks as big as a tombstone!
The bush rifle front sight from S.A. is a NM sight.

OK, sorry to reserect this thread but I found some actual measurements. Not official but its something and I was hoping some of you could confirm these numbers. I measured my front sight on my shorty/scout and got .800" from base to tip(pause for laughter)

The stock socom tritium sight measures from the dovetail base to the top of the sight is +/- .722

the stock m14 sight is +/- .560 tall

the stock scout front sight is +/- .692 tall

the garand nm front sight is .718-.710 tall... .062 wide ...dovetail is +/-.03

If the shorty and scout are essentially the same thing then .692" is what we are looking for. Can anyone with a shorty shooting in a normal range measure theirs?

All this was found here, post 10. http://m14forum.com/modern-m14/119248-another-socom16-front-sight-replacement-question.html
