I do own the Ruger hawkeye , 35 Whelen and I roll my own.
Ive had the Whelen for a fair while now and shot 2 boxes of 250gr Corelokt factories for the Brass and began reloading as a Newbie.
I used this Rifle to stalk sambar deer over a Dog (pointer) for 3 years , shots were seldom over 100m and generally on the burst, point and shoot.
I used Woodleigh 225gr RN SP , great bullet for -200m and i was very succesful with one shot kills.
The Pooch Passed and hunting changed direction for me as a deer hunter, I began stalking and finding unalert deer.
Im rambling a little, but since those days Ive shot Australian Buffalo and a variety of Smaller game with 250gr Hornady interlocks and use the rifle as a 250m MAX round myself, as the 308 & 270 are taking care out at the 300-400m bracket.
Have loaded 200gr TSX and pumped a few of those into Buff and Pig but never a Sambar. Too much of a fan of the bigger slower cup n cores.
