Just to make the Gun Purists cry...

Vinyl doesn't protect the surface its on. We all learned that from the 1960's and 70's cars that have it.

Are you talking rust? The gun (from it's previous life, see first post) already has a light coating of rust, all the blue fell off this gun long ago. I de-oiled the surface using acetone before wrapping to try and remove all moisture. Perhaps it could rust at the vinyl seams, but the other parts should be alright, shouldn't they. I'd appreciate any info you might have. The only way I'd be able to check the gun after some use is to remove it all and then have to re-wrap it later (Pain in the butt)

The problem with vinyl on cars is it trapped moisture. Eventually over time, water gets in from the seams like you mentioned. It will eventually rot the roof of the car. Once the vinyl is removed it reveals some of the worst rust issues know to the automotive world next to floors in an old convertible. It wasn't so bad for places that had hot weather though. Maybe it will be okay since its a gun. Not a car sitting outside 95% of its life.
