I understand people can bring AR's into the US from Canada. What about, say, an NEA 7.5" AR? In the US it'd be considered a SBR so would you need any special permission?

I don't say this as fact only that I believe others with better knowledge then I on the subject have stated it here on CGN, that is AR type rifles made in Canada are not able to be brought into the USA even for temporary use (those being Colt Canada, ATRS and NEA).

Please do check the proper legal channels before trusting this one way or the other as I'm only repeating what I believe to have read here on the Black Rifles forum.

Cheers D

Interesting. But if you build your own from a spikes tactical, RRA, bushmaster, aero precision, etc, you should be fine?

Its the lower that is the firearm, therefore if the lower is made in the usa you are golden.
The barrel must be a minimum of 16 inches.

Not sure if it needs to be mentioned but you need to be going to a competitive shooting event, trade show or hunting trip and need documentation to prove so. If you just want to take it across the border to go plinking on your buddy's farm, you won't get approval.

I just came back from Michigan with my SA20. No problems getting a form 6NIA but yeah, no barrels under 16inch, no Chinese stuff.

Paper work in hand...zero issues at the boarder (that was my one and only experience with the system - YMMV)

The Appleseed shoot?

Hunting licence or invite not required as of my application dated and approved in Jan. You can go on private land and shoot.

Taking restricted, make sure you get a border Att from your CFO.

Wait, so we do or don't need some sort of invitation to an event to bring it down? Would being a US citizen void any invitation requirement?

The rules changed a few years ago. As a Canadian NIA without a Visa (exempt) you don't need an invite or a hunting license to cross the border with items registered on your Form 6NIA. It doesn't say it specifically (imports only), but temporary imports of Chinese firearms (defensive weapons) will not be approved, but Chinese shotguns should be OK; I tried to add my Norinco recently and the reviewer got back to me real quick to ask to have it stricken from my application. FYI, if you bring significant spare parts for your guns, you need to include those separately on an attached sheet. You may need a hunting license to acquire ammo or shoot it in some states.

Ok..I could be wrong (have been before) but line item 14 on the form says that unless you have an invite to a shoot or hunt your pretty much are non-compliant. Not to say that a few of the members haven't taken their AR's down to the US without this, but just going from what I' reading on the form.
