Ya Ted, heard of people doing that, also heard of them rechambering to 25-35 Win as well.
There are a few odd ducks out there that were factory chambered, like a 9mm smoothbore that lettered from the factory but I think they were R&D rifles.
In the 220 offerings back in the day the 28 ga was a pretty rare one to find as well.

Have a few buddies with Chicopee 219's that just use the grooves and have never heard of anyone complaining about them. Get a nice set of Leupold Weaver mounts and some good rings and I couldn't see a problem.
If you wanted to keep it period correct I'd try to hunt down a Savage 3833 scope for it. I've got one and it's never lost zero, even on an old 99R in 358 I've got.

Even more fun would be to machine up a chamber adapter in a .30-30 barrel for 7.62 Tokarev/.30 Mauser. Reamers can be had from Brownells or right from the supplier. Could make the adapter as a removable unit or a glue-in. (JB Weld or Loctite)

I'm wondering how much pressure those old Utica 219's can handle?
Back in the 30's when they were first being made I don't think they were using steel like the stuff we get today, I wouldn't rechamber one to anything to crazy.
