Thoughts on Savage 219b 30-30

I have heard of a few guns being rechambered to 30-40 Krag. Anyone here seen that?

Ted

Ya Ted, heard of people doing that, also heard of them rechambering to 25-35 Win as well.

There are a few odd ducks out there that were factory chambered, like a 9mm smoothbore that lettered from the factory but I think they were R&D rifles.

In the 220 offerings back in the day the 28 ga was a pretty rare one to find as well.

Just to correct. Mine does have grooves for a scope. They are shallow and narrow and figured I would require a more "modern" and secure mount? Maybe Im wrong? as Im no expert on scope mounts. Anyone know what size/type mounts I would need?

Have a few buddies with Chicopee 219's that just use the grooves and have never heard of anyone complaining about them. Get a nice set of Leupold Weaver mounts and some good rings and I couldn't see a problem.

If you wanted to keep it period correct I'd try to hunt down a Savage 3833 scope for it. I've got one and it's never lost zero, even on an old 99R in 358 I've got.

I'm wondering how much pressure those old Utica 219's can handle?

Back in the 30's when they were first being made I don't think they were using steel like the stuff we get today, I wouldn't rechamber one to anything to crazy.
