All things considered, I'd have to say mine is .17 hmr.
I just shot my first gophers of the year, probably about 20 of them from 10 to 175 yards.
I had my k hornet and my hmr. With handloads in the hornet costing slightly more
than hmr ammo, I think I like the ease of factory ammo in hmr.
I would'nt have got half of the gophers today with a .22, I reserve it for when gopher numbers are high and
the shooting fast and furious.
What's your most practical, affordable gopher cartridge?

I like the CZ 452 American in .22 rimfire.
Federal Hp or CCI Quick Shok for the ones out a lil further, just have to use some Kentucky windage when reaching out between the two different bullets.
One year we sat on a feild for 4 hours and didnt move more than 20 yrds from where we started.
Tight Groups,
Rob

Man, if I ever make it out your way I'll be bringin' my HMR and a .223. 17 grs. for the HMR and 53 gr. Vmax for the .223. I've been stealin' glass from my .22's, but I'll bring the CZ 453 for the closies if I can find another scope! I really, really want to do this.

Mostly June when the younger ones are up and before the grass grows too high and obstructs possible targets.

If it turns into a really dry summer the shooting sessions become more common then not.

June and July....the hotter and sunnier the better.

.22 rimfire for up 100 yards out of my 10/22 and Anschutz but this year I am using my .223 bolt action and going to play way out there.

.223 is cheap an easy to get for me and I would think will work just fine and as mentioned June seems the best time.

22 with Winchester hollow points.
May try out the CZ 452 in 17HMR if I still own it after
our gun show.
She is might purrrrrtie with the walnut stock.
Man, can these things shoot well.

6br, 70 gr SMK @ 3400 fps, 720 yds is the furthest hit achieved.
300 WSM. 125 gr Nosler BT @ 3700 fps, so far 830 yds is the longest hit. Both rifles are braked and wear 4-14 vortex HS scopes.

It's that time of the year again....
