Just another Franken-Norc build in progress

I have a sillier question. Why the Norc bolt? I'm still rocking one too, but are they trustworthy for longevity? If going to the extent of a Krieger barrel, should a guy swap for a GI spec bolt?

Absolutely nothing wrong with the Chinese bolts. If you have solid lug contact, the Chinese bolt will work just as good as a GI. Install barrel and ream for desired headspace and you're GTG.

yup, exactly ;)
and it leaves the doors open for options down the road. if I decide I want a new fulton bolt or a usgi bolt, I still have factory hardness at the receiver lug pockets to lap a bolt in.

well, been raining and snowing here and super windy the past few days so haven't had a chance to put some rounds down range.
will see what I can do this afternoon.
found a buttstock kit in my gun room that will serve me well for testing while I wait for a OD magpul MOE commercial buttstock to pop up.
will post some pics and hopefully get to the range today ;)

made it out to my shooting range yesterday and got the ever important barrel break in process complete.
this consisted of the following procedure, shoot 1 round and clean until fouling is noticeably reduced, this took 40 rounds, then I switched to 3 round then clean firing pattern for another 15 rounds. the last patches almost came out clean and this tells me the rifle is now ready for regular use.

Krieger barrels are finish lapped in the direction of bullet travel but when finishing the chamber with the pull thru reamer (or high speed lathe reamer) , the throat develops a grain that crosses the lapped finish. because of this, these barrels (just the throat) must be properly broken in to prevent detrimental copper fouling in the throat.
more info can be found on Krieger's website FAQ's .

got pretty windy by end of my shooting session so didn't do any shots for accuracy BUT today is looking pretty good, 10 degrees, nice and sunny and it isn't windy :)
will update again as soon as I've had a chance to shoot some groups. gotta make a 56k trip to town to see if I can get some more boxes of federal 150gr powershok , being easter Monday, I might have to put this off till tomorrow if the ammo store is closed

Gonna shoot great I bet

hopefully it shoots as good as the one you grabbed off me hehehe that one was shooting honest sub 1" groups the day before you came to pick her up ....... with irons at 85 meters (norinco barrel even)

sorry to those following this thread expecting faster progress , livin where I live one has a lot of chores to do around the property once the snow melts. been real windy and I've been cleaning up down poplars all week and no trigger time yet since barrel break in.
Got company coming tomorrow and just sent the wife out of town to her mother's for a 10 days :dancingbanana: , so the next week or so will be gold prospecting, shooting guns, a lil fishin maybe and if we see a humungous black bear we just might make a rug out of it hehehe

so I'll try my damdest to get this rifle to the targets and get some cool pics and video ;)
stay tuned.

Thomas your a lucky man. Living the Life.

it's not as glamerous as I make it sound LOL but it sure is much quieter than the big city hehehe
I'm pretty reclusive and making friends is not a skill I was blessed with so it's a curse trying to find a camera man for shooting days. Lucky for me my buds are driving up from Langley tomorrow and first thing on the agenda is to set up the range and shoot some rifles.
where I'm at it's not remote enough for me but it's what I can get away with without having to get divorced LOL still workin on the wife to move to Yukon or Alaska ;)

well.... made the drive up to my favorite shootin spot. geebus , still 2 feet of snow LOL 4300 feet elevation so I guess I should have expected as much.
we did manage to get some rounds down range but I'd like to do it again in a couple days with a couple different loads.
today we used federal powershok 150gr
made a little video

I only fired 3 , 5 round groups with the m14 at 100 Meters with irons. I chose pretty crappy targets for shooting with irons as I could just barely see the 1" orange diamonds with irons at that distance. here's the results of the 3 , 5 shot groups. I think pic 2 is a 1/2" diamond , was top right corner of the main target

it is hard to tell but each of those groups 5 shots although 2 of them look like only 4 ;)
not bad but could be better. Gonna get some better targets and giver another go with 5 shot and 10 shot groups. I have to admit, going on 46 and my eyes and irons aren't doing so well LOL
more to come ;)

that sucker shoots, what is /was the best shooting m-305 you ever built.

that's a tough question but in 2009 I built up a norinco 2007 receiver with all USGI parts and a Krieger stainless medium 22" DMR barrel
I shot it at Thompson Hill range one day with Gothmog (magwedge) , just a test fire really.
it had a CQB stock and an eotech mounted on an arms 18.
that rifle put 5 rounds of federal 150 gr powershok into a hole that was covered by a Canadian Dime. range was only 50 yards but geebus..... a dime sized group from a semi auto .308 even at 50 yards is crazy accurate in this platform.
I have over the years built several (or more) m14 type rifles that shot MOA or better. I don't see a lot of guys post about the rifles and stocks I've built, but they are out there ;)
this rifle here in the pics seems to have some real good potential. gonna have to make the 2 1/2 hour drive to Kamloops to pick up some match ammo and better targets and see what I can do, the gun shop in 100 mile house closest to me has prices/inventory that will see me avoid them altogether LOL.

Acp king the Canadian tire at the top of the hill in kamloops will be selling guns by May long weekend and what they have set aside for space is like 2-3 powder kegs

hey thanx for the heads up on that ;)
life is dandy when a guy can use his pile of Canadian tire money for gun stuff LOL will make the long trip to Kamloops well worth it, I certainly don't go there to shop at Nosalesports LOL

Will post when I finally get to shoot. What happened at my work last night I might get to shoot a lot more, but probably can't afford ammo:(.
