Question for Iltis owners

There was actually a length of plasticized aircraft cable with loops on the and around 4' long issued to the Iltis. It looped from under the seat bracket or rifle bracket and through the steering wheel, secured with an F2S2 rated padlock. It would be bard to cut the aircraft cable, although the army cut those padlocks by the 1000s it seemed.

I lost count of how many iltis, ls and ml padlocks ive cut off. I never seen cable used, only chains. Sometimes it was easier to cut the links because some guys used the abloy locks, They are a pain to cut.

Volkswagen made a commercial version of the Iltis (which is German for polecat). I believe it was called a Type 183. It may be possible to retrofit a commercial ignition into the military version. Again an Iltis specific forum would be the place to find out. Also, you may get more support from people on an Iltis forum than you get from some people here.

I have a 1970 Monte Carlo, and as a little added theft protection I have a battery disconnect, available anywhere, and I take the coil wire off. You do have to keep track of the pieces you take off though.

tis is possible and very easy really if it has a start button all that needed is for it to be removed and a universal ignition wired in but id rather just go with the battery disconnect I posted putting it under the hood would hide it this way if someone tried to hot wire it quickly it would not work you can also get one that hooks onto the battery terminal

I'm not sure I would want a 220hp iltis lol. Bone stock they go fast enough for a little bush buggie lol.

Finding one of the Amb models would be awesome though as they have extra heat lol

Try using a bicycle chain through the steering wheel and around seat bracket.
If anyone wants to steal it bad enough they will find a way to do it regardless but this will keep the "honest" people at bay

I was led to believe that the translation of "Iltis" from the German was "wolverine".
