There was actually a length of plasticized aircraft cable with loops on the and around 4' long issued to the Iltis. It looped from under the seat bracket or rifle bracket and through the steering wheel, secured with an F2S2 rated padlock. It would be bard to cut the aircraft cable, although the army cut those padlocks by the 1000s it seemed.
I lost count of how many iltis, ls and ml padlocks ive cut off. I never seen cable used, only chains. Sometimes it was easier to cut the links because some guys used the abloy locks, They are a pain to cut.
