2015 BC Precision Rifle Championship June 19-21, 2015

So far everyone that I know of have shot tactical rifles in those calibers. But there is a set of rules in place if someone wants to bring an F gun and give it a try. Would kind of suck shooting against someone with a 6.5x284 or 7WSM when you are shooting a .223 or .308. The rules are in place simply to keep things on a level playing field and avoid the inevitable arms race once
it becomes unlimited and there are some pretty sweet prizes on the table.

Some advice for new competitors, which I wish I knew before my first shoot. This should probably be a sticky.

For the walk back/sight in - it is HIGHLY recommended that you and your team member have hand-held radios for communication. When you do the walk back, your team member will be manning your target in the butts. You're going to want/need direct communication with them so they can tell you clear adjustments to make. At 600 yards you're going to need it and you won't have an opportunity to see your target until you're done. There is zero cell phone reception at this range. You will need to tell your team member if you need an indicator or if you want him to change it or anything else. An inch can mean the difference of being in the winners circle. The radio is a must, including an extra set of batteries.

If you want to be competitive during the shoot, a spotting scope is a must - as well as the experience and knowhow to call corrections to your team member. At the Vancouver Island shoot, illae lent us his extra spotting scope and it was invaluable. I owe my win at that match to him for lending the spotting scope and my team mate for being able to give me clear corrections, especially on the 500m line. Spotting your team mates hits with a rifle scope is iffy at best. You'll need a spotting scope directly behind the shooter to effectively see trace and make corrections.

For those that have never been to a military range before expect to see different safety protocols and standard procedures. Ask lots of questions, sometimes thing feel informal because of the assumption that everyone has been to a military range before.

The course of fire can and does change during a match. Pay attention. More importantly, don't get flustered and in a rush if you're not sure what's going on. More often than not you're going to be waitingso there is plenty of opportunity to ask questions from the match director or other competitors.

Pee early and pee often. I'm looking at you shoot/no shoot agony stage!

While I agree that a good spotter and scope is essential to doing well at the match, it is not need to get in there and give it a try. The best way to learn is to get in there and give it a go. Spotting skill or not. You will have little victories and little defeats at this match. All part of the learning experience and nothing to scoff at or be embarrassed about. Some of my best lessons were when I screwed things up lol. Don't let those thoughts stop you from enjoying this awesome match!

Going off topic for a moment. What is the turn-around time for the BCRA membership?

Interesting question. I wondered the same thing. Then, I got the envelope back. I filled out the 2014 form and sent it to that address. Fortunately, the envelope made its way back to me.
I'm sending the match registration and membership off in the same package. This time, I will send it to the correct address which is on the 2015 form. Oops!

I asked for prof of reg. for attending out of province match still don't have any response. Not worried about it most matches never ask for it anyway. They usually take your word that you have it.

The first post on this thread has the link to the 2015 BC Rifle Association Membership form. At the match we get an up to date membership list. If you sent your form and cheque to the address on the 2015 membership form and they cashed your cheque you will be on the list at the match.
The link to the Match Rules and Course of Fire is also on the first post.

On a somewhat related note. What is the turnaround time on the BCRA membership? I'm beginning think my application has become lost in the mail.

If you are conserned send them an email or a phone call. They are a little short on help these days. I still don't have my card not worried about it.

So its time to renew my membership (had the introductory last year). What is the difference between Full Conjoint, Associate and Limited associate? I do not see this explained on the form and I can't find it on the site.

I have sent an email to the BCRA Membership Secretary asking the question.
