Hey anyone know anything about the Brno zg47 7x57 I've just inherited one and am having a hard time finding any information on the value and or quality of these guns it's in working order but needs to be re blued and the stock could use refinishing produced in 58 as far as I can tell
 
I often see it referred to as the ultimate Mauser action, only about 20,000 produced. Tradex has had a few 30-06's and they seem to be getting up to the $800+ range now. 7X57's don't come up as often and might be more desirable depending on condition of course.
 
I have one in 7x57 and it's a one hole shooter with the set trigger.Win 760 is the powder you want for 140gr and Re#22 for the 160gr/Win brass + magnum primers.Small ring 98 action........Harold
 
I also own a zg47, it once was a 7x57, but has been reamed to a .280. I also believe the zg47 is one of the finest Mauser actions..... Fixer up and Enjoy!!

Ahaa...glad to see that fine rifle is still in good hands.
At a recent gun show there was a ZKK model in 7X57. Nice concept but so rough compared to the ZG's.
 
Yes, the ZG47's are a very high quality rifle. I have one in 8x64 Brenneke and absolutely love it. I don't shoot it much and haven't taken any game yet but one of these days. It has accompanied me on a few fair weather elk hunts but no luck with it yet.

I have one in 30-06. Fits me like a glove. I'd give my left nut for one in 7x57 but havn't found anyone willing to do that trade yet. The search continues. :(
 
I have my Mom's '57 7x57 ZG47. The barrel is getting a pretty worn though, will probably need to be replaced in the next few years. Maybe one of Ralph Martini's Heym barrels...

Also have a minty '06 that's with Weber & Markin right now.

The ONLY fly in the ointment on the ZG is a stock so poorly designed for scope use with so much drop that it's too low for the irons, let alone glass.

I agree the stocks aren't ideal for scope use but with a bit of practice and handling they are usable. If I were going to use mine for serious hunting I would maybe look into a more comfortable aftermarket stock. I would save the original stock of course since they are pretty collectible rifles.

My stock looks exactly the same as yours jb. I've seen pics over the years of ZGs in a bunch of different stocks but most guys who had them said they were factory....? One or 2 were even inlaid with all sorts of diamond ebony paterns and such. Looked real funky. Anyway, if a guy were going to get an aftermarket stock for a ZG, what are the options out there for him short of getting a custom one made?
 
I love 7X57 and I have had a few 21H rifles over the years but sold them. I kept a custom 7X57 along with about 8 or 10 military 7X57s.
Recently within the past 7 years I have been using a Remington 700 BDL 7mm08.
 
They are basically a large ring M98 so I think any M98 stock could be made to work with some inletting and minor modifications. I haven't really looked too closely, as I have no intention of actually restocking mine, so I could be wrong. I could pull it out of the safe and compare it to a standard M98 if you'd like.

That's what I figured but i wasn't sure. I don't know as much as i should about Mausers. :redface: You don't have to take it out and measure it. I'm not planning on changing my'n up anytime soon either. They're too pretty. Thanks. :cheers:
