OUT OF THE BOX ... I couldn't get an MBUS front sight onto the rail because it was larger than it was supposed to be which was fixed with a LOT of hammering.... gave it a second chance as I didn't plan on putting much more on the rail. Got it to the range today to try it out ... of the 100 (very patient) rounds I put into it trying to zero it in... MAYBE 5 of them fed a proper follow up round without jamming it or outright just not picking the round up. Multiple mags were tried with no luck, took my bolt carrier apart and reassembled in hopes something was just wonky. Still no dice.

I was debating just having them fix what needed to be fixed and returning it but after reading this i'm gonna save myself the headache and go spend the extra couple hundred bucks and buy something reputable.... for what it matters, this is a gen 2.

Thanks for the tale of woe. So, you bought the rifle directly from NEA? That's the impression I'm getting. You must be pretty special if that's the case.

NEA must have two factories...the one that makes the examples I've held and shot, and the pot metal part plant.
 
Most people who say their NEA works good have a post that says something like "My NEA runs flawless, I just had to fix a couple of things first."
 
All of this makes me a bit nervous. I picked up a gen1 18" dmr at a black Friday deal... 50% off. It is my first AR. I did a fair bit of research leading up to the sale and found as much positive feedback as negative. As someone previously mentioned many of this goes to gen 1 versus gen2. When I asked the sales guy on the phone whether it was gen 1 or 2 he said he wasn't sure but that it has the newer handguard. So I figured it was gen2. At that time they didn't have too many left so I went for it not wanting to miss out on the savings. Wasn't till I saw the picts above that I realized that I have a gen1. Yes, I should have been more insistent on getting clarification.

I only have a couple hundred rounds through it so far but haven't experienced ANY issues. No ftf or fte. And from what I can tell everything appears to be in spec. Hopefully my luck will continue as I plan on pumping the rounds through it now that the warmer weather is here.

Please remember that not everyone is an expert with ARs nor have the funds to drop on the high end manufacturers. So don't be so quick to judge us owners. Life is filled with learning experiences.

That is not just people with NEA products, I have met a lot of people on this forum who recommend brands saying the same sort of things online along with great accuracy reports, yet when we actually go shooting they are always tinkering with stuff because they really are not happy.
 
Hello, new to ARs. Currently, I am still looking into purchasing my first AR. Excited yet concerned. I wanted to purchase a Northeastern Arms rifle, be that im a Ontarian and they're a Ontario company. But after reading discussions on CGN, I do not want a NEA anymore. Im sure people have different opinions and all, but when its this much backlash, no thankyou. My price range is $1200MAX. any suggestions? My considerations lowend, Norinco, windham weaponry. highend, Colt, core 15

Core looks like it has a completely BS free warranty (take a look, it's transferable and no conditions). Colt has a great reputation, hard to go wrong there. Norinco's seem to work really well, and the price is hard to beat. Windham is basically an original Bushmaster if I'm not mistaken...made by ex-Bushmaster employees. Regardless of all the flack here I wouldn't be afraid of an NEA if the price was right. They certainly have had some issues, I think dogzilla summed it up pretty well. Most people that have had dealings with their customer service had their issues sorted out without any drama.
 
I just want a good starter platform, at a reasonable price. From what I research, AR's have endless customization features. So with that in mind, I do not want to limit myself price wise, Be that it's a cheap AR and I cannot customize certain things or a really expensive AR that i'll end up wanting to swap out pieces. So reasonably, 1000$ max.
Smith & Wesson Model M&P15 Sport. 850$ and a Respectful name!?!? should I

go for it, ive owned lots of.different brand ar's and now I just have a dpms since it suits my needs.better then the ninja'd dd I had.

For 1200 max I would pick up a norc 10.5" for 650 and spend the rest of the money on costumizing it. Id cut the front sight of to half and put on a 7.5" rail. Change the stock to the battle stock , put a MOE grip, some back up sights and polish the trigger. This setup should be a fine setup for a starter. You learn alot on a norc and if youve masted the AR move on to something fancier

Had one, was excellent, you could do worse, and for the money hard to do better. Mine was a very accurate rifle, 10 shot groups around 2 MOA but usually with 5-6 shot clusters around 3/4 MOA. If I was a better shot I'd put money on it that it would be sub MOA.

Put that cash on ammo instead.

If you can get a Windham for 670 do it. The fit and finish are miles ahead of the Norc.
Where are they that cheap?

Edit: nevermind, didn't realize that Windham effectively has polymer receivers. Their aluminium receivers are pretty great though. Speaking of which, selling an unfired complete lower at the moment.
